A Maus tank in 1/15 scale. 4200+ pieces, tracks only 1200 pieces. Length 70 knobs, width 30 knobs, heigth 30 bricks.
Weight about 4.5 kg, has 6 M-motors, 2 batt. boxes, 2 receivers. Turret is indenpendent, no wires to the hull.
Working suspension, 48 wheels in 12 bogies. Way too big and underpowered, as the real one ;)
Since tracks ( 8 knobs wide ! ) takes almost all space in hull, space between tracks is 6-8 knobs only and is full of motors, gears, battery box etc.
About this creation
I found a youtube video about the only real Maus existing, saved in Kubinka tank museum:
This is what was survived from WW2. It is combined from V1 hull, which had no turret and a turret taken from destroyed V2.
Its quite difficult to make right angles to all surfaces, since mostly those are not default lego angles
The small ( 75mm ) gun. What for is this pea-shooter needed ?
Notice the Chromed exthaust pipes, which gives some sporty look. Thanks to Chromebricks!
Tank commander Darth Vader and his right hand Zurg. After Death Star destruction he bought this ;) Rebellions, beware!
Turret moved to service platform
Since there is about 1500 moving pieces on tracks and suspension, Hull sides can be opened up for maintenance
Track and suspension. The tracks are the most important feature of this tank.
Made of separate pieces with pain.
Secondly suspension and bogies close to original,
made of separate pieces with pain too...
Track and suspension, close lookup. Originally Maus was not able to turn around
in place, tracks too long and too close to centerline. And with this it is a pain
to turn around. Top speed was about 13 km/h off-road, a Cooper-test result of 2600m.
Normal soldier would outrun maus by foot !!!
Down under
The track, MausKetten, tier-10, price 82500. made of 66 2*8 elements, 1,05 meters long. weighing 0,9 kg.
All surfaces of this tank are made of separate panels that can be easily removed.
Here is turret side panel opened.
The whole turret side removed. Turret is quite full of stuff...
Turret back , access hatch to battery switch
Front hull top, access hatch to battery switch
Some panels removed from hull top
Front engine/gear access panel removed, internal parts are color coded, like gears here in red. Notice that tracks takes almost all space inside. Fitting 4 M-motors between tracks was a serious challenge. But after 10+ versions they are there ;)
Maus Control Unit ( MCU ): Joystick for turret, speedcontrol for tracks
Drive wheel and track piece
Drive wheel and track piece opened
Size of my Maus, hull length about 55cm / 22inches
Upgraded Maus: barrels are now same colour as tank. End of the barrel now more realistic
Over the track there are some kind of "hooks". dont know what they are, maybe for some extra armor plates, mudflaps???
And a video of Maus:
LDD instructions below contains controller, lower hull, track and gearbox.
These makes the platform of this tank.
Really nice work ;) can you send me an email with the instructionmanual? i would build this for decoration :D sorry for my bad english i'm from germany ;)

Ok, now you make a Pzkw III with these tracks.
That should be big enough, dont need to build tanks anymore after that .....
Havent seen anybody to try these tracks yet, only Duo Maxwell is planning VK4502(P) ????
THAT...IS...HUUUUUGE!
Making your own tracks is genius! im stuck with legos that fall apart when they're stretched and as it is ive only got enough to make an rc PZKFW III!
Great work!
im taking my black cat (it is a technic brand lego model) i moved up the front wheels and shortened the cab...BTW the track design is genius but i might not have enough pieces so i may have to change it around...any ideas for an AA gun?
OK, NXT motors have enough power and can run directly those tracks. And if 8-wide is not enough, this can be extended to 10-12 easily.
Sorry, i dont know about others oversized creations, this maus is biggest tank i've seen in mocpages. Maybe somebody would like to build "Ratte" with these tracks ;)
thanks...i will give you credit when i post the halftrack...BTW do you know of anyone who has built a large scale AA gun?.....the engines i will have to use are NXT motors and it may be controlled by the NXT brick...
I add 2 pics to show the wheel and track. But with these you cant build anything small ;)
Drive wheel is simple, build on axle 12 length. I used M-motors, because XL's just dont fit in this tank ( its too small ) ! Gear reduction is about 1/5. Track is made of 2 2*8 units, you just build as many you need these. in the center of track are these guiding-tooths, road wheels run on sides. My road wheels are purely maus-styled.
well i have a chassis already built. i may not include the suspension. i need to know how you built the treads. i would also like to know how you mounted the motors and what type of motor you used.
that is awesome!!! i have one question... can you make building instructions?... i would like to make this for my school engineering class... if you can... send them to kyle.page@chilesprep.com
thanks
Thanks for the comments! I knew somebody would like it ;) It took some 9 months to finish it.
And its also quite fun to see it moving, not fast, but noisy when those huge tracks are rolling...
One word OMG! Okay that's three words... This is probaly the best Maus in Lego form I've ever seen. The details are amazing and the fact that it has treads and one color is a very big plus. If it was minifig scale it would be able to knock out any tank here on Mocpages. Really awesome
