(Before any of you get excited, no, this is not a bionicle in any way. Bytes and spheroids in my storyline originate entirely separately from any bionicle-related things, and in fact tie in more with ArcheoGenis, the Mysterions and MAOX.)

(Gang Garrison 2 - Get Acquainted With the Infiltrator)
Bytes are the equivalent of rahi to matoran, or domesticated animals to us humans. They are less intelligent than their spheroid masters/keepers but are cruxial to the running of the network organism/planets they inhabit. Each plays a different role, but only Spheroids (Orbis sapiens) are truly self-aware. Bytes rarely leave their planet of origin. Unlike Spheroids, bytes are also born/manufactured with their body and are fused to it, unlike spheroids which can build, connect and disconnect at will. They also posess an eye with a pupil. Spheroid-vision works slightly differently.
Also note that the spheroid emotions and corresponding colours are based according to the Byte classifications. Viralism affects both bytes and spheroids.
A viral byte is a byte that has been corrupted. The Virals are a constant threat to any spheric system and are hunted constantly by Megabytes. The appearance of the viral is due to degredation of the main eye. The outer bubble breaks and the flesh inside degrades and turns gold. The eight chords they use for speech become visible and extended, and the central brain ring is also visible. In bytes, their bodies also degrade. Biotic material turns gold, and the body darkens, twists and warps and becomes slick with virus-containing oil. What is most dangerous about virals is that many still retain the spectrum signatures they had before infection, so many systems don't recognise they are corrupted.
The viral byte shown is the fully infected form of a former megabyte. It retains the two hooks classic of most of them. It is known to lurk in wait before snatching unsuspecting bits and bytes into its hook-like appendages and biting them with the spike beneath its 'eye'. The bite infects the byte (ha ha) with virus.
I came up with the idea for the viral, and I'm therefore quite surprised it took me this long to get around to making one. The foot of Vera was originally intended for a viral spheroid but ended up in the creation of a shadowmonger instead. Anyway, as per the contest's rules it does not exceed the height of a toa mata, and since it's a viral and not a normal byte, its colour scheme is black and gold only.
wow really well done! looks like a cross between a snake and a preying-mantis! I really like the body!I do like the arm design but i know how fragile it is, i tried it!
