Based on a set of requirements put forward by the WCHC for a VTOL, the F-40 Sprite was chosen out of all competitors. Looking like a Hawker Harrier, it is the 2037 version of the iconic aircraft.
About this creation
Based heavily off the Fireline , I shamelessly pilfered the front and a couple other parts for my own purposes; though it has a distinct 'Ultra' flare to it in many places...
Ordered for the navy and marine corps, about 150-200 are to be built. This number may change depending on variants and other needs.
Mach 1.8 capable, it is quite advanced over its predecessor the Harrier. Outfitted with the most modern avionics and NAVFLIR, it could hold its own against stealth aircraft, especially the lightly-armed MAF-2 which is set to be its main opponent for the next decade or so; where the Sprite's lower speeds and maneuverability will play for its advantage in a dogfight.
Top intake flap open.
Rear nozzles turned down. In a maneuvering fight, these yield rudimentary thrust vectoring for pitching.
Overall awesomeness.

So, thank you very much Einon, for an awesome pattern to follow!
