What if Babylon 5 had Mechs? What would they look like? I came up with the Gropos Mech! A massively armed and armored battle craft used by the EA ground pounders.

You had me at Babylon 5 sir. Very cool, kinda looks like a gigantic Ed-209 from Robocop. Looks very "realistic" in a gigantic robot fighting tank thing could. |

Just came back to appreciate this again. I like that grainy filter that Mike R described as a news/gun camera effect. Which one was is that you used?
The pics themselves were taken on a cloudy day on the "Sports" setting and I held the camera rather than use the tripod. So part of the "effect" was poor pic quality. Then I just kept playing with several things to get the look I wanted, I can't tell you exactly what they were however. I am still learning GIMP and did much by trial and error, doing something and then hitting undo while moving on to something else.
And thanks again, I like how it came out. |

I really like that into pic. Whatever effect you applied to the photo results in an almost disturbing realism. Like a blury screen capture form a news brodcast, or gun camera footage. I dig it. Attack!
El Barto got me started on this, part of the "atmosphere" of the shot is the photo quality and part are the filters GIMP has in the editing process. I knew the two pics I wanted for the background and when I first started playing with the editing it was not long until I settled on this one.
The background is actually a scene from the episode "Gropos" and all I really did was cover the actual B5 vehicle that was there and impose my mech over the top. I am learning much from the Bart man and studying his BSG stuff. Credit goes to him for the kick in the seat. |

I Really Enjoy The Overall Look To This Mech, It Gives A Old School Sci-Fi Movie Feel, At Least To Me It Does. Nice Work. |

For your first mech, it's ridiculously impressive! I sure wouldn't want to see that thing chasing me!
Thanks! |

I would put it at closer to 60 or 80 tons. It's a beast, no doubt about that. I like the use of this canopy in the vertical alignment. It's always pleasing to the eye. I just don't like large windows on surface combat platforms. I know, it's made out of "futur-anium", and so it's perfectly safe, but I'd rather have a nice thick chunk of acrylic to squint through. I'd like to see the transport for this guy. Attack!
I agree about the clear surfaces and it was one of the things about B5 that kind of annoyed me. The EA fighters were so well thought out and actually "flew" using the reality of physics and micro-gravity, but in the game at least there were supposed to be magnetic fields that surrounded the cockpit area that protected the pilot from both cosmic radiation and stray energy weapons -- although a direct hit would obviously be problematic for the pilot. As to the weight issue, the heaviest part of the mech is the fusion batteries, the rest is made of light-weight materials such as titanium and ceramics thus resulting in lighter weight and greater speed on a large weapons platform. At least in my imagination anyway... |

Cool mech, Dude! I just responded to your comment over in the RS Group. The word vict#mization raises a red flag for some reason.

Ain't its feet a bit small? For the rest, it's awesome :)
It was manufactured for Earth Gov by a Tokyo corporation if that explains anything...and thanks for the encouragement! |
