The GAIA Saga - Episode 4 - Ambushed
When the Draggone abduct the Emperor's daughter and threaten her life, all hell breaks loose...
About this creation
Episode Four...

Saluting her Bretonnican commander for the last time, Tanya Roberts is rife with mixed emotions. The now famous rendezvous at Gibraltar Prime, of Bretonnica's remaining fleet and the newly formed Galactic Anthropic Imperial Armada, would forever live in her memory as a time of great troubles, but even greater excitement. But that was 13 months in the past, and the universe had since changed forever. Her brave feats aboard the 'HMS Aris' had earned her G.A.I.A wide recognition, and though she was sad to be leaving her first post, the time for taking the next step in her career had arrived.

The Emperor's Fleet. 98 parsecs from Draggone world Drakis IV.

Emperor Phillip Basil III's trepidation gives way to pride as he gazes across the situation room of the 'HMS Line breaker'. The fighter captains of the surrounding amassed fleet have converged without question or complaint, to hear their collective upcoming mission. Perhaps with such fine humanity about him, the future of Earth was secure.

'Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. As you all know, the Draggone are holding one of my daughters captive. They wish GAIA's unconditional surrender, else they will execute and devour her on live broadcast. Do any of you think I should agree to their terms?'

The Emperor turned to his wife briefly to hide his smile as the entire room shouted, 'Hell no sire!!!'

'And does anybody want to see her executed by those lizard faced devils?'

'Hell no sire!!!'

'We are going to land an on-world invasion of Drakis IV. Secure a beach-head, and put boots on the ground until we extricate my girl, and any other humans they might be holding. Then we evacuate to orbit and destroy the entire planet. This, while fighters continue to secure the surrounding space around Drakis IV, for the duration required. Does anyone have a problem with this mission?'

'Hell no sire!!!'

'What's GAIA?'

'Long live GAIA!'

'What's GAIA?'

'Long live GAIA!!!'

Tanya listened in awe as the Emperor and amassed commanders outlined their plan in detail, realising that even with everything she had been through, she was still little more than a fighter jock; the sheer tactical brilliance and understanding of the human psyche her commanders displayed, almost intimidated her.

When the assembly ended, Tanya moved to exit the room as swiftly as possible. She was keen to return to her new post, 'HMS Daphne' and at least spend a few moments getting used to the cockpit of a Samhain Fire, before having to fly one into combat. 'And who might you be there my dear young lady, out of uniform and all?' Oh my God, panicked Tanya, she had not even had time to change into her new uniform before arriving, and now the Emperor had just caught her by the arm; in her Celtics T-shirt!

'Uhm...' Tanya reflexively snapped to attention and launched into the habitual monotone of a soldier, 'Flight Captain Tanya Roberts of 'HMS Ari- Daphne' sir, Sire!!!'

The Emperor laughed heartily, 'At ease, Captain. I see you are a Celtics fan? And I detect an accent. Do I have an American aboard my fleet?'

'Yes Sire. I hope that's not a problem Sire. My parents back on Earth wouldn't let me fly so I ran away to England and signed up there.'

The Emperor stroked his chin in thought. 'You're that crazy girl from the Aris aren't you? 200 kills in 13 months flying an old Euro Systems Fighter.'

'Yes Sire. I was kind of lucky, heaps!'

The Emperor laughed again, generally taken by the energetic young woman. 'Well that's a good thing my dear, we need all the luck we can get. As you were Tanya Roberts...'

'What?' screamed L.T Irena Kalic. 'Tanya who? I am being looked over for flight captain for the sake of some new recruit who; 'A' has never stepped foot aboard this vessel until ten minutes ago, and 'B' has never flown anything but a crappy old Euro Systems Fighter? Are you freaking insane?'

X.O Robin Templeton sighed. 'Look this comes from commander Date herself. Apparently this Tanya gal has 200 kills to her name already. That makes her GAIA's lead ace at the moment, though the way the Emperor's other daughter Talia is going, I'd say she'll end up second. But that's some impressive stats, especially given she did it in a crappy Euro Systems Fighter as you say.'

'She has never even flown a Samhain Fire sir!'

'She logged 200 hours on the Samhain Fire simulator aboard the Aris Kalic. I'd say she'll adapt.'

'This is such a pile of B.S!'

'You are dismissed Kalic.'

'Sir, this is crap!'

'Dismissed!'

Everyone has returned to their base ships as the HMS Artemis flying at the tip of the fleet, continues scouting the road ahead, even as it passes through a cunningly laid Draggone trap.

Unaware, the scout ship is allowed passage until such time as the entire GAIA fleet is surrounded. When the cloaking devises of the enemy power down, it is only so that energy can be directed against GAIA in the form of laser cannons.

The HMS Artemis quickly suffers a direct hit, and although it manages to warn the rest of the fleet of the immediate danger, it will take no further part in the conflict as its hull separates across port, condemning the ship and its crew to the silent death of space...

Bridges throughout the fleet are brightened by the same harrowing image, as the HMS Artemis' succumbs to destruction, under the weight of the Draggone surprise attack. Alarms ring out across the fleet and all fighters are ordered to launch.

Already in her bright white jump suit, Tanya fumbled with her bootlaces before calming herself with great discipline. This was it! A 'Samhain Fire' was waiting for her. She just had to get to it and down the launch tube before the marauding Draggone blew the 'Daphne' out of the sky! Quickly checking her hair, Tanya ran from her quarters, and by following the other scrambling fighter jocks about her, soon found herself in the unfamiliar hangar deck of her new battleship home.

The flight simulators had been one thing, but seeing humanity's greatest ever achievement before her for the first time, Tanya almost wept with joy. Her native America and its Am-Space fleet made a decent fighter, as her fighter pilot parents could attest to, but the Samhain Fire was reportedly something else entirely. And she was finally going to get into one!

Tanya laughed girlishly as she launched into space, her Samhain Fire handling like a bull. The speed was unbelievable and G-forces indescribable. Tanya was in heaven. As her LADAR screen plotted enemies abound, Tanya tuned in to her flight group. 'Hey guys, Tanya Roberts here, let's keep it tight, and watch your sixes.'

'L.T. Irena Kalic reporting. Hey Tania, nice to have you with us. If you get in a jam, pull back, no shame, these birds are different to what your used to.'

Tanya smiled as she crushed the throttle down to the floor, speeding towards the incoming enemy with reckless abandon, 'Catch me if you can Kalic...'

Quoting Christian Schlichting A great series with good builds and nice story telling. If possible, could you re-upload the pics because some of them are still broken since the server crash this summer.
This ep was a nightmare to fix! Hope you enjoy mate :)

Quoting Tom Simon What? I'm checking in and expecting to find 3 or 4 new things from you. Oh no, have you suffered the same fate as the runner at Marathon? No wait, you probably found a new GF.

Quoting Ultramarine . Floor pedals? That seems backwards somehow. Awesome story, and great photos! Keep 'em coming! -Ultra
hehe, yeh well I reckon these birds would have alot of retro exhuasts and the like on them requiring more than just a stick control for all inclusive space flight control. Just the way I like to envisage the scene, with our fighter jocks utilising all limbs just to keep these birds straight! Cheers as always my fellow faux war fan!

Quoting Jesse Long I sense a rivalry between Kalic, Roberts, and the daughter of Commander Date brewing here. You could have the beginnings of a very Wing Commander-like story here, Parrington. If I were you, I'd introduce some new faces and have little stories on them, too.
hehe, yeh the main rivalry of the story over the course off my Mocs has been Tanya vs Talia(Star-Girl, the next in line for the throne of GAIA) Kalic is fun, but she is not a main character. I like your advice, but to keep a story interesting, I prefer less characters so that a deeper bond with them can be formed by the reader. Thanks for looking Jesse, always good to hear from you mate...

Quoting Rabid Goldfish Excellent story-telling as always. You seriously ought to write a book with this. You'd probably make a bestseller Sci-Fi. ^Blub^
If I ever get the luxury to do so my goodfriend, I would love to write up a novel on this. Still trying to figure out what window to tell the story through, though on this site, I have obviosuly chosen fighter jock T.Roberts. Am still trying to pick the best thread of the collossal story stuck in my time wasting head, lol...
