This is my entry into the 2011 MOC Athalon.....category is:
16. Lost in Space.
Oh no! You've crash landed on a distant world. Build an alien landscape. Minimum size allowed is 16x32 studs so we must be able to tell the size. Design plants, creatures, buildings etc not seen on Earth. Take inspiration from movies and books if you want but don't be afraid to let your imagination run wild. Wow us with your creativity and parts usage.

Journal entry 3636: As we approached the Phipson Nebula, we started to have trouble with our engines. Our first thought was to try and make it to the Pluto base station, but we were too far out. We started to have a nitrogen leak, which really screwed things up as well. A nearby planet soon became our only hope. As we approached the planet we started to break up. It was all we could do to keep her together and crash land on the surface. We've landed in an odd looking forest.....though it was soft enough to keep us all alive.

Journal entry 3668: The Captain swears he saw what looked to be a city about 80 clicks from our location. I didn't see anything of the sort though. I see orange for as far as the eyes can see....though I do see what seems to be mountains and various plant life in the distance.

Journal entry 3670: As we made it to the crags we spotted in the distance, a terrible noise was heard. It was deafening. After we gathered our wits, we pressed on.

Journal entry 3671: After a full night's sleep at the crags, the Captain wants us to move forward, fully convinced there is a city up ahead. After we search for edible food we will.....................................

Rescue ship 337 to base, we see no signs of life here, over. Request permission to return home.

Roger. Permission granted. Pack it up boys and head on home!

16X32 mofos!

A couple bonus shots of the alien.

A fun little microscale project with a small tribute to Tom Simon who is taking a break. I'm certain I got the flower technique from him.

Anywho, enough rambling and MOAR posting!!!

GO ABST&RDS!!!!

The unusualness of the orange for a landscape bumped you up to a 4.

Nice take on this using microscale. Love that critter and everyone knows the Phipson Nebula in inescapable due to the large Brown Hole. Your score = 4

Haha. Well the flower technique is simple enough, but I was thinking: 1) I do like me that alien 2) just when I was mouthing off about pushing my kid off with the orange parts!
