Battlestar Galactica's Colonial Viper 1 - minifigure scale.
About this creation
Well here's my first shot at a MOC since I was thirteenI've learned a great deal about new pieces, colors, and approaches in the first few days since this creation, and now see some flaws. However, I'm still fairly pleased with the general proportions and detail. It's also my first ever attempt at a "no studs" approach, and though it was more difficult the end result was much more satisfying. I actually started this around 9:00pm one night. At 4:00am the next morning I had finished - couldn't believe I worked through the night on it. But apparently that was the beginning of a madness that many Lego fans seem to share, and now many sleepless nights later I'm on to bigger and better things (look for a far more advanced MOC of an old school Cylon Raider in the next few weeks). Soooo...though it's nothing extraordinary, here's the first of hopefully many new creations to come...

Side view - One thing I wanted to tackle was the elimination of studs often seen on the wings of other models. On the down side, proportions taken from blueprints would have the engine cylinders just a bit larger.

From above - I also made it a point to measure out various lengths. I was fairly pleased how the model compared to the blueprints regarding wing to fin proportions, as well as nose to body lengths.

Three quarters view - I made a few changes suited to my own tastes in the way of details. You'll see a some additional lights, some color variation in the wing paneling, and red caution strips around the cockpit.

Cockpit - The joystick is the unique item here. It's a standard Lego joystick with black tubing slid over it to thicken up the handle. At some point I'm thinking about reworking the minifig to see how close I can come to the old school uniforms the pilots wore (one person suggested a pharoah's headdress to simulate the helmet - my thanks, I might see what that can do).

Really superb work, along with all your other creations. I know I'm probably going to get some flak for this and really it is just me nit picking, but I feel the angle of the wings is off. It seems a little shallow to me. That's the only thing I can see which I feel needs improving though. Top notch job and can't wait to see what else you come up with.
As you seem to like making rather big ships, can I recommend doing the original Battlestar Galactica and/or Basestar? |

I love this recreation. Looks like it could be used to film new footage for lost episodes. See now, if I had just taken a look at your MOC, instead of making the gross error of watching some episodes on netflix, I could have preserved my fond childhood memories of the show.

The only thing better than making a spot-on design of a ship this beautiful is making a spot-on design of a ship this beautiful AND in mini-fig scale! That just adds a whole new level to it! Good job on such an absolutely perfect build! |

I have to say though, don't believe that guy who says this is good enough to be an official set, in my opinion, saying it's as good as LEGO's is an insult, not a compliment! Great job, LEGO should hire you.;-) -- -- Michael |
