Well here's my first shot at a MOC since I was thirteen
I've learned a great deal about new pieces, colors, and approaches in the first few days since this creation, and now see some flaws. However, I'm still fairly pleased with the general proportions and detail.
It's also my first ever attempt at a "no studs" approach, and though it was more difficult the end result was much more satisfying.
I actually started this around 9:00pm one night. At 4:00am the next morning I had finished - couldn't believe I worked through the night on it. But apparently that was the beginning of a madness that many Lego fans seem to share, and now many sleepless nights later I'm on to bigger and better things (look for a far more advanced MOC of an old school Cylon Raider in the next few weeks). Soooo...though it's nothing extraordinary, here's the first of hopefully many new creations to come...
Side view - One thing I wanted to tackle was the elimination of studs often seen on the wings of other models. On the down side, proportions taken from blueprints would have the engine cylinders just a bit larger.
Three quarters view - I made a few changes suited to my own tastes in the way of details. You'll see a some additional lights, some color variation in the wing paneling, and red caution strips around the cockpit.
Cockpit - The joystick is the unique item here. It's a standard Lego joystick with black tubing slid over it to thicken up the handle. At some point I'm thinking about reworking the minifig to see how close I can come to the old school uniforms the pilots wore (one person suggested a pharoah's headdress to simulate the helmet - my thanks, I might see what that can do).
Really superb work, along with all your other creations. I know I'm probably going to get some flak for this and really it is just me nit picking, but I feel the angle of the wings is off. It seems a little shallow to me. That's the only thing I can see which I feel needs improving though. Top notch job and can't wait to see what else you come up with.
As you seem to like making rather big ships, can I recommend doing the original Battlestar Galactica and/or Basestar?
i like battle star galactica it is awsome i have the whole seris at my house my favorite character is star buck and the lego creations are so cool the sylons are the cool to but again the lego creations are awsome who is your favorite character?:)
I love this recreation. Looks like it could be used to film new footage for lost episodes. See now, if I had just taken a look at your MOC, instead of making the gross error of watching some episodes on netflix, I could have preserved my fond childhood memories of the show.
Really great work. Haven't seen the series yet, but it looks appealing. Anyway, I left a comment on your MOC: "Waiting for MOCpages..." can you please check it out?! I left a message there but haven't gotten any answer.
As i was young Battlestar Galactica was one of my favorite movies.I´ve seen lots of bad attemps to build a starship from it.Your Viper is so....
i don´t know what to say...awesome,great,fantastic,perfect????
Let me say in german---- Einzigartig-----
The only thing better than making a spot-on design of a ship this beautiful is making a spot-on design of a ship this beautiful AND in mini-fig scale! That just adds a whole new level to it! Good job on such an absolutely perfect build!
Mark Kelso, You are the bestest ever, in the history of being the best... You always amaze me! I sit in front of the PC, just drooling (not literally!) while looking at the amount of details in every single one of your MOCs... Keep creating these epic mocs man!
I like this creation a lot! It's cool even though I am a girl i like it! I also enjoyed meeting you at Brick world! I don't know if you remember me but I am Dylan B.'s little sister! I know I did not talk so you probably don't remember me but just wanted to say i really liked your creations and maybe you could look at my stuff sometime. . . even though i don't have to many things. -Kaylee
Hey, thanks for letting me in ;) This is a pretty good fighter, I especially like the engines, I tried to make those tires look like engines for several times, but failed so far...you should probably build more of these small builds in between ;)
again, if you keep posting images from the tv series and trying to pass them off as your own Lego creations, you need to have formal charges filed against you. Where are the MOC police when we need them...
I never commented on this. It's one frakking nice plane! I have built a few of these, but in grey. Never got one posted before disassembly. I am thinking we are going to see a Shaddix viper on MOCpages soon. ...maybe even 'Laura'
I'm not sure to understand... Was it your first MOC here ??? What a glorious start !!! - BTW A great thanks for your comment, I've read carefully your advices, and I'll keep them in mind for my next MOCs :)
I like it

Nice detail on this one Mark. I love the color scheme! Anything built using white and orange just seems to "pop". I know nothing about Battlestar Gallactica (sp?), but this MOC get's a 5. :-)
I demand an immediate invitation to your house so I can personally swoosh this thing around for at least an hour, or else I may just lose my mind. I find it hard to believe that this is your first moc. At this level of building...hmmm, I say....HMMMMMM!
GASP! Blows away all the competition. Great job. looks just like the real one. I have to say though, don't believe that guy who says this is good enough to be an official set, in my opinion, saying it's as good as LEGO's is an insult, not a compliment! Great job, LEGO should hire you.;-) -- -- Michael
*sigh* I have so much to learn...
This is a beautiful design - makes me wish I could add another genre to my collection.
The studless design is bang on and I am going to attempt it on some S.W. ships we are working on - thanks for sharing.
