A little post to show what I'm currently working on. Began construction in December 2010.
About this creation
A photo showing the size comparison with a couple of large ships. Also, showing which ships had to be sacrificed for parts in order to help finish this WIP. :-( Trying to avoid too many Bricklink orders and all that.
Final dimensions of the Blacktron SHIP will be about 130 studs long, about 65 studs wide, and 18 bricks tall.
A little closer in. Should be able to see a bit more of the detail.
A shot of the interior with top panel removed. Front to back: bridge, troop seating, and staging area/storage hold.
Detail of the shield generator. Underneath is the scout ship hangar.
Dearly departed casualty of the building process. A ship I like to call "endearingly ugly" on account of it looks kind of messy, but darn if that isn't part of the charm. Plus, you can't beat all the nifty play features that were built into it.
Another sacrifice, and a really hard one. I've kept the Explorien Starship intact since I got it back in 1996. But it had the plates, hinges, and bricks I needed. Perhaps someday, it shall live again... Another classic endearingly ugly ship from Lego.
Since these shots were taken I've already made some major changes to the design: made the troop seating area larger; made the staging/storage area just a staging area, made it smaller, and added a permanent exit/entrance ramp instead of the intended fold-down ramp; scout ship hangar is now the cargo hold; and got rid of the shield generator on account of it broke up the flow of the ship too much.
May put up a couple more progress reports, but also hoping to have this completed before too much longer. Now to decide on a name...
