This is my entry to the "Old Master" category, I chose "Bedroom at Arles" by Van Gogh. I tried to stick as accurate as possible to the original, but Lego just doesn't have some colors, I had to opt to plain brown for the floor because it called for a strange greenish-brown color.
Instead of a mosaic or maybe bas relief, I chose to make the panting real by turning it 3d, haven't you always wished you could step into paintings?
This was unlike any other kind of build I've made because I actually had to follow a guideline, which isn't one of my specialties, I still think I did well.
As always, thanks for taking the time to check this out, much appreciated.
Oh no, this is a tough one. Van Gogh is a Dutch Post Impressionist painter... I have given advice on this matter to another mocer in another group. However as Chris said you have actually taken a painting and recreated it which is what the category asked for so I will not give a zero. This is really ASTOUNDING work! and be very very proud of it. I will have to dock a point and give this a 3.

Well, first the bad. VG isn't exactly a Ren painter...
I have barely any knowledge of the renaissance, and I can only spell it with the help of spell check, so I didn't know Mr. Gogh wasn't a painter of the time, but the criteria were clearly stated in the description. A score of 3 sits well in my stomach anyways. Thanks :)
Well, first the bad. VG isn't exactly a Ren painter... we discussed it between the judges and have given advice on this to others in the past. Gonna have to dock ya a bit on that. However, you did take a painting and made an amazing 3D moc of it so for that, (minus the docked point for being off category) you get 3 points (woulda been a 4 if it was within the category). Good luck with the other judges as they may not be as forgiving on this (or maybe they'll be more forgiving, ya never know). ~ Chris.
This is just brilliant! All the details are spot on. I especially like the chairs - the rubber bands were a great idea! Van Gogh's style is probably the most difficult to replicate in lego, but you pulled it off! Excellent job Alex!
Wow! I love this! This will be at least a 4 from the judges i bet, I think its worthy of a 5. I love how you took a 2d painting and made it 3d instead of a mural. Great techniques here, I love all the furniture and decor. Great job!
