A reinaction of the ferocious siege of Jerusalem in A.D. 70
About this creation
This is a reinaction of the infamous siege of the city of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 led by the yet-to-be Emperor Titus and his Roman army. This vignette features a much-researched Roman tortoise, a formation of shields used by the Romans to approach an enemy wall in the midst of a bombardment. The shields are made out of curved cardboard strips with painted decorations and a little LegoŽ button stuck on with glue. Check out these Roman soldiers and their shields more closely here. To the left, an early siege engine, powered by several slaves and soldiers inside, is slowly breaking through the walls of the Holy City. A centurion is sitting high upon his horse as a squad of Romans rush into the open gate, only to be met by expert Jewish archers.

Very nice, very nice. Good Testudo (latin for tortoise), Romans, etc. My biggest complaint is their helmets, the little points are, well, hopelessly inaccurate. Gaetano Dooms' old Roman Army had pretty good helmets, but they're cut and pasted. A couple historical notes, the Jews at this time did not have a king, and most would not have helmets. Here's the hard part, they would be wearing those Arabian turban things that draped over their shoulders, which LEGO doesn't have a piece for. Their ninja mask might look OK here and there, but not as an alternative. But then again I'm a picky perfectionist (both of which are bad enough on their own), so it's probably just fine as is. Nice job! -- -- Michael |
