This is my Titan - V5.2 full tour! Thanks to all who made it a MOCie Award 2011 AND a MOTD!!! =)
About this creation
This heavily armoured and stealth submarine is equipped with 2 torpedo tubes and 16 nuclear missile silos. This next generation sub can dive during years, depending on crew's mood...

Its profiled hull, propellers and powerful engine allow high speeds(up to 77Km/h underwater).

It was first designed on Lego Digital Designer. Compared to my 4.1 version, the hull now mesures around 148,5 centimeters, instead of 105 centimeters, for about 21 kgs(almost 8000 parts).

Thanks for watching and telling me what you think of Titan!

For this nice main Pic, I must and want to give some special credit to El Barto's work! Many thanks to you, buddy! ;-)

The access hatche to the torpedo room.

The torpedo room.

Some clamps, mounted on a rail and hydraulic system, help handling torpedos until they are in tubes.

On the left top, one of the two waterproof emergency doors, in the case of a hull breach.

Door closed.

Torpedo tube hatche opened.

The clamp system slides this way.

Close up of the conning tower.

Inside the conning tower, this is the wheelhouse.

Conning tower's roof, with access hatche, periscope, communication antennas and radars.

On the rear of the conning tower, a pressurized sas allow underwater operation.

Here is my cool scuba diver! (Thanks to Cyberfrank2010!)

Through the heavily armoured side windows of the hull, the control room. Because I wanted some strong basis for my conning tower, this is the only part of the sub you can't access directly.

It's also difficult to take proper pics inside this part, so, I've included pictures of the LDD model with all the side hull hidden, in order for you to see properly the control room.

From the left to the right: the crew's quarter, the control room and the torpedo room.

Under this hatche, the Captain's room and the crew's quarter.

Here is the Captain, having some rest.

In his room, a screen and communication systems allow him to give his orders and organize operations of the ship from his room. It can of course play Blurays! ;-)

The Captain's bed.

Under the Captain's chair, a hatch allow going downstairs to the crew's quarter.

The ladder leading to the crew's quarter.

This the crew's quarter.

On the right top, notice the second emergency waterproof door, separating the crew's quarter from the engine room.

On the left, the combined toilets/shower.

On the right, the fully equipped cooking corner, and above, very important for me, a wide screen home cinema, with integrated PC, Bluray player and next gen console! =)

On the left, above the combined toilets/shower, the bunk beds.

Let's close it

It's impossible to tak pics under these transparent parts of the hull, I'll show you later.

These two heavy armoured hatches protect the retractable heavy machine gun and the escape pod.

The turret raise!

The heavy machine gun deploys.

It can adopt a lot of angles.

Under the heavy machine gun turret, the escape pod, in case of critical damage of the ship.

This ejects this way.

The lower hatche allow the crew to come in, the upper one allow to come out the module once at the surface.

The escape pod area.

Two access sas on the sides allow to reach this area from the interior.

Because it's impossible to take pics under the transparent parts of the hull, I've included pictures of the mounting to show arround the escape pod area, with the two access hatches.

16 nuclear heads...

This is the engine room.

In red, the nuclear reactors.

In yellow, the powerful electric engine, linked to the propellers.

Notice you can see the nuclear missiles through their transparent silos, from the interior.

Some close up of the rear, with its dual propeller system.

Couldn't resist to appear with my sea monster!
Hope you've enjoyed your trip with Titan!

:-)

Quoting Daniel Brilliant Your page says that you are looking for build ideas now that Poseidon is done. If this is indeed the case I have a suggestion: you could make a new littoral class combat ship. It is a design that I would love to make myself, but I don't think that I have enough experience in contemporary ship design to do in justice. I have a feeling you could make an absolutely awesome one. Here is a point of reference just in case you are not familiar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Independence_(LCS-2)

Quoting Daniel Brilliant I love the detail on the inside and the level of thought that went into the design. The scale of this project is also very impressive. I wonder if it might be possible to give it a smoother exterior by using some of the rounded lego pieces, such as part #2572, #6002 and #30562 in an exterior shell built perpendicular to your existing hull. I'm not sure if those parts come in black though.

Quoting P. Voranc This is just amazing! When I was a kid I built a nuclear sub too, but it was way smaller. It only had six nuclear missiles so I guess it wouldn't be a very intimidating SSBN, but who knows, the Indian Arihant is not bristling with missile tubes either. I have to find some photos, beacause I'm pretty sure that they are hidden in some older photoalbums. Oh, the good old times without digital cameras... Anyway, your build is spectacular and I think it will take some time, before someone surpasses you in this category. I guess it will be a very long time. Maybe the longest time, as Billy Joel would say...

Jay, this sub is incredible. It is a far cry to take something from LDD, and actually make it in real life, where it supports itself, has integrity, and can be actually delt with. Hats off, one of the finest builds I've seen. Now, when are you gonna tell me where in the heck you sourced all of those bricks! Let the cat out of the bag! Chris

Lol! thanks! That was very simple: for Titan, I'm afraid I paid the strong price, via design by me: around 2000€(a lot because I've made so much modifications after the main first order, woops!). And my Ares ship was made with a quite big random "pick a brick" order. Voila! =)

I would take some hi-resolution photos! But I honestly don't have your talent! And I'm not a native english man, so this is complcated to give me photoshop instructions! If you need ideas for a future update i would like to suggest a silent drive like the one the fictional Red October has :-) Oh, by the way i think 8000 pieces would be about a third of my total amount of bricks - and that's just for your sub! :-O With the black pieces i have i could - maybe - build the conning tower.

Phenomenal build!! This is truly a work of engineering and creative art! You have captured the elegance and the claustrophobic life of the submarine perfectly. Really nice work including all the interior, most BIG mocs are just beautiful outside, but yours has so much "depth" pardon the pun lol. Outstanding build. 5/5 seems to low for this masterpiece. Quoting Austin Becht Excelent. Also you need to make your nation and upload your statistics if you want to play Conflict. If not you can be a builder for someone, making your own vehicles out of your own ideas but letting another player use them in the game. If you just want to be a builder you could be a builder for me as i have no ally or builder but people like Nemisis have 2 builders and the max 1 ally. If you wanna play i would like you as my ally if you are fine with that.
Hi dude! Wow! That seem complicated! Need more explanations about the concept of the game... Otherwise, if I understood well the concept, you could "hire" my vehicles and stuffs? =)

Thanks Sniper! You're right! The reactors are composed of two half-cylinders. I would say they look like a big plane's reactors. I've found these special pieces in Lego Digital Designer(and immediatly thought they could make some great nuclear reactors) when I've designed Titan!

You´re right this is a "must see". The level of detail and the playability is superb. I really like your small details like the captains bed and the tubes on the nuclear plant. Thanks, Mr Levens! I'm curious about witch version you used! Some people working on LDD told me it was becoming completely crazy around 11000-12000 bricks! At least I could build my Titan(8000)! That's all I wanted! =)

Again, great boat, Dude! My previous comment suggested taking her for a dive, and clearly, that's not practical. However, photoshopping this into an underwater scene I think will really portray this MOC to its full potential. I suggest studying some photos of any sub above and below the water, and seeing if you can recreate them with your boat. I'll invite you to the photoediting group where you can get started.

Quoting Justus Nelson absolutely incredible! i still want some (gonna make some money this summer!). very good. uh, does your crew have to hotbunk, or is there enough room in there for each man his own bunk, and do you have any gyroscopes? i love the details, tho! very good. vry, very good. how many crewman do you require, and what is the maximum and the skeleton of the crew? ALSO! build a drydock, maybe? that would be cool. spare missiles, oh! and you should allow for the palcement and viewing of fuel rods in the reactor, AND ISOLATE YOUR REACTOR ROOM IN LEAD!!!! HAHA. in a polaris and later subs, there would be tiny amts of radiation, but still, they isolated it. but very good job overall!!!! AND WHY IS MY BUDDY ICON NOT WORKING!!!!!
Wow, thanks for your kind comment Justus! So many technical questions! The crew is composed of 16 men + the captain. There are 12 bunk beds into the crew room, and the banks of the cooking area are convertible to beds. We've got 2 teams of 8 men to handle the sub with the following distribution: 2 in torpedo room. 3 In control room, a leader and 2 men for communications, radars, detection equipments... 1 man to handle the heavy machine gun. 2 Men in engine room, for missiles, engines... Whilm a team gets some rest, the other is working... My entire engine room(all the rear, behind the crew's quarter) can be isolated by waterproof door(radiation stuffs too!). I consider my reactors are already themself isolated. And you can see a round bar inside, we could see as "fuel rods". Maybe I could add some doors, or change the design, but I'm not sure I want to modify Titan again! Thanks for your obvious interest for my sub! Sorry, I have no answer for your buddy icon! :-)

Merci encore Buddy! ;-)

Quoting Dreadnought o_o I like the sub, Maybe do some work to make it rounder. What are you going to do next, maybe a ship. I would like to see a minifig sized stealth ship on mocpages.
It will now stay the same! I am not sure you realise how to unmount this big mass of brick. It took me 5 days to change the rear! My next moc will be ordered with each details already done! I've made so much separate order for this sub! And it's really not convenient when you've got big structures like this to unmout everything... This type of ship is a good idea! Thanks a lot, Dying Breed! Riffles are cool too, but I prefer massive vehicles! Happy to hear so much cool comments on my sub! So what sort of Military stuff do you want to make? :-)

I think I've corrected the mistakes. I want to thank you a lot for that! Titan loves to hear that! :-)

Quoting Mark Kelso As per usual, the director's cut is the better version! Love the additional detailing with the interior. It's an impressive MOC to begin with, but once you get a full tour of the inside, it becomes a jaw-dropper. Gotta say, the removable captain's quarters was a particularly cool idea - be fun to see a massive ship with all of the interiors done in a modular fashion like that. GREAT WORK!
Thank you very much Mark, to come again to see Titan! I suppose you loved the new pics... Director's cut are (almost) always the best versions, I agree! I find funny you like the idea for Captain's Quarter! To be honnest, this is one of the latest details I've put(the more I was thinking about it, the less I could imagine that class of veissel without some cool room dedicated for the Boss, don't you agree?), and I was asking myself where I could put it.(not much empty space left inside!) Finally, what is more logical that it comes above the Crew's quarter(or next to!). I know the day the Captain becomes old, the ladder won't be a good idea anymore! Happily, people get age faster than Lego!(or sadly, I'm not sure!) :-)

Quoting Suboken Project Without a doubt, this MOC is a prime example of the type of passion building with LEGO offers it's fans. You've created an amazing model and I bet it steals everyone's attention when they see it in your home. It reminds of the movie "The Hunt For Red October". Wouldn't it be great if you built the Red October to ship along side the Titan.

If you wanna make it, no problem! I would be proud and happy you use my design! Just don't pretend it's yours! There is a small problem with last updates of lego digital designer: I couln't order it again without changing a few stuffs; for exemple, I had to order my second proppeller separatly on pick a brick: it is not selectable anymore in LDD! :-( I strongly suggest you take the file here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/265665 because it has all my latest updates!(sorry, the captain's room has remained opened, in the model, but it's really easy to correct it!) Finally, the biggest problem in Titan: its price! A bit less than 2000€!(maybe less, because I've made too much separated orders!):-S If one day you build it, I would be really pleased by a dedicacion to my ever best and biggest creation! ;-)!

Quoting Peter www.tirpitz.net Very good job, absolutely stunning! With only standard brick size (no plates) I know how difficult it is to build a nicely shaped hull. And with all the interior it's for sure one of the best ship models around here!
Thanks very much Peter! Always a pleasure to share with other sea vehicle builders! Titan is still not finished. I've added 2 MOCs to show the two last modifications I've made: The Captain has now his own bedroom. Titan has now a redesigned propulsion system, with 2 propellers and bigger rudders... Hi Justus, and Thanks! 12! wow! You don't like my nuclear reactor's colour scheme? I took what was orderable in Lego Digital Designer! There are a lots of navigation tools, in the control room, for exemple, and radars, sonars and antennas... There are some fire extinctors in each part, if it is what you mean by fire control. By suggesting this: "emergency situation response team (firefighters)". Do you mean small armed vehicles that would come out from the hull and defend the mothership?

Thanks Marty! I had already thought about it and I'm actually thinking on an easy and conveniant way to modify it! I thought about a second propeller or maybe a big turbine... I'll show you as soon as I've got my new design!

People always like my interior. Don't you like the sub's design, people? I will say: 3 days(one week end and a night!) for the first version: 4.1. 5 days to unmount and upgrade the rear for the actual version: 5.0. You're probably right, Daniel Jassim's ones might have influcuend me too! Now you suggest, I had already thought about a stand to display it. I think I will do that! Just give me time! Quoting charles scholl Actually i lost all my work on space miner . my ldd crashed when downloading the upgrade. but the new features allow for more options .the lego universe upgrade on the ldd added alot of old parts i wanted but cant purchase them through the design by me . But be on the look out for either an updated space miner , or second version with details changed that i needed to make . Most of space miner was compartment build and then structural additions to make it stronger with thinner walls to allow for doors and hatches.
I'm sincerly sad for you! It's good design and shape you had! When I've upgraded mine, it was telling me lots of bricks were missing! I'm happy I bought it before the update!!! Imagine I had to change my plans! I would be curious to see my Titan into Lego Universe! :-) :-(

Hi Zack, my sub is happy to hear that! I clearly display my favourite one: the bigger, stronger and uncut 5.0 version! I find the 4.1 really cool, because it is the genesis of this project, but too small, now a bigger one and more fonctionnal is in my in my rest room! ^^

Quoting Josiah Gillespie Well done. This is great, especially since you were able to build it with the limited types of pieces that LDD has. I love the interior detail.
You right, Josiah! I could have made so much cool systems, with more technic brics, and rotatives or opening bricks are colour range limited! I thank anyway Lego Designer, because i had not made LEGOS since i'm a child, and i'm quite in touch with computers(in my job, i make them work), so I think it was a "soft" way to bring me back to them.

Quoting Brian Hastings Hey - nice submarine; it has the look of a Typhoon class SSBN, except that the missiles are aft of the sail. Can't believe you had the patience to design all of that on the computer first... kudos for that! The longer design really helps it look a bit less blocky, though that's a challenge, especially with modern sub shapes.
Thanks for the kudos! Brian! I might have left legos for too much years, so that i might have found that starting a new creation with LDD was quite funny! Anyway, i did't have any brick to start, and I think LDD was a convenient way to know where i was going in my project!(i first did not know if i was going to buy the real model, depending upon my satisfaction and the price) I tried my best not to do a blocky shape, with a quite simple structure... Hope I managed that!

Quoting Dreadnought o_o Nice sub. I never liked nuclear submarines as much as wwii ones. Its the round shape compared to the sleek sharp shape. I dont think I will improve on my gato because there are a lot of better sub builders out there then me. I want to get into tall sail ships (pirate ships). You did a good job. I dont like to use Ldd with big creations because it requires patience. I like the detail on the inside, The reactors, missile tubes, life boat, and that yellow thingy looked awesome. Also does the crew compartment look the same as your old sub because it looked good too. 4/5.
The yellow thingly is the main motor, lol. Don't like it? I wanted radical colour change, in the inside, and viewable parts. New bricks are coming, with good pics! I will upload new pics soon...

Hey Charles! I confirm LDD sometime stumps me too! It's really a good program but i had to learn with its own limitations. For exemple, if you already mounted a real model you ordered via LDD, using on screen mounting instructions, you know what i'm talking about! Don't hesit to contact me(i've put my mail address on my profile); always a pleasure to talk with other Legos fans! ;-)

Hello, and thanks Charles! I'm working on the Titan since something like the 15th of november, 2010, so i had time to improve it! I started it on Lego Designer too. What a pity there is so few Technics parts! I also like ships, in their fonctionalities... I tried my best to reproduce this in 3D... Have you seen the main project: Titan - Nuclear Submarine? Thanks Victor and Henrik. Wow, i need rest! I even did not wake up to go to work, this morning! I would have liked to have much more Technics parts available in Lego Designer! About the transparents parts, could we imagine some futuristic submarine witch would have that sort of design? I like it this way and people will be able to see inside this part. Henrik, i think i'll do it, even if i'm far more afraid to unmount it really than virtually. I'll add tonight some lifeboat or mini vehicle, coming out from it. Estimated price of the modification: around 500-600€. So tell me, whitch one do you prefer, everyone, between this version and the previous(actual) one? :-)

Very nice! Now I really like it! Transparent parts for hull are nice but I think that they are not useful for sub. But not for tubes. The shape is good! Studying is killing whole time...
