AD-35S "Ballista" Long Range Space Superiority Fighter
The latest in Space superiority! The swift, agile fighter designed to replace all space-capable AD-15A, you can rest assured that the Ballista can and will get the job done.
About this creation

The AD-35S Long Range Space Superiority Fighter. Agile, swift, and more durable than its successful predecessor, the Ballista is a force to be reckoned with. Propulsion is supplied by two primary Resonance Ion Drives, as well as two smaller Drives designed for speed advantage and manuevering. The Ballista can log an unheard of flight time of over 8 hours in straight combat, nearly three times as long as Space-capable Daggers.

The underbelly of the Ballista, displaying the four LRASMs, or Long-Range-Anti-Ship-Missiles. In addition to this missiles, the Ballista can mount torpedos, bombs of many types, and even highly restricted Resonance Warheads. For dogfighting, the Ballista utilizes twin pulse cannons, a new weapon developed to fight the Sasketan.

Dispite the heavier armor of the Ballista, it remains faster and more manueverable than the Dagger. This is due to high density inertial compensators, the high speed gyros that can spin the ship and bleed off excess inertia. Unlike the Dagger, which could only utilize one, the Ballista contains 3 such compensators, giving it unparalleled agility. Though this does increase the fighter's mass, the additional compensators can more than handle the extra strain.

The Ballista and its dogfighter arsenal. LRASMs are used for shooting down enemy fighters, strikecraft and even smaller frigates when paired. These are high manueverable missiles, though a skilled pilot can still outmanuever them. Other types of weapons can be mounted, but none are pictured here.

Here we see the Pilot in his pressurized flightsuit. The cockpit is mounted in the nose of the craft, granting the pilot unequaled visibility, though not without placing the pilot at some risk. Any collisions that occur to the bow of the Ballista will most certainly involve the pilot. But we feel the trade off is more than equal, as the pilot who can see his enemy can evade his enemy.

A side by side comparison of the Ballista with the RB-24 "Skifter" used by one of the subfleets in GAIA.

Another comparison of the Ballista and the Skifter fighters. We are currently testing the fighting capabilities of both craft in order to improve the AD line.

These fighters are designed for Space Capability ONLY. Do not attempt to use these craft within an atmospheric environment except under extreme emergency. The Ballista can not generate sufficient lift for atmospheric flight and can only land.

Ballistas are designed to replace the AD-15As onboard the ESC Security Forces Fleets as the primary fighter support. These units will be supplied to all fighter carrying vessels, including the newly commissioned Geneva Class Destroyers.

CREATOR'S NOTES

Well, I didn't have any particular inspiration for this one. Just felt like building a fighter and didn't stop until I was finished. A bit more polished than the Dagger, but also a bit more radical. I hope you guys like it.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. The Sabre and the Ballista are fundamentally different.

Quoting Marc "Edge" R.unde Are you ready for some serious dogfighting?! With this baby you´re always a winner!
You better believe it! I have always prefered dogfighting to missile barrages, personally. While the Ballista carries missiles, both fighters are designed as dogfighters, with the Skifter benefitting from speed and the Ballista benefitting from durability. Thanks for the feedback!

Quoting Mike Johnson A stunning space fighter in every way possible but where's the ejectable pilot block? Just kidding. It's always good to see a new build from you.
To be honest, I did consider it, but it would've bulked up the nose far too much, so I integrated it instead.

Thanks. It's the new fighter that is being used by the ESC, and I'm sure GAIA would love to get some, yes?

It's a pity that I live too far from you, I'd love to see these beauties personally. Amazing creation, at first I thought It was an AEGAKS cause the cockpit resembles an AEGAKS Pilot Block. But I imagine that would not be difficult to adapt it. PS: I will post the Blockade soon, maybe tonight or tomorrow.
