Finally, after many days of MOCing (and many days of waiting between the 2nd and 3rd day), here is the newest Version of my Self-MOC ZORK!
About this creation
Before you start searching for Versions 1-6, I'd like to remember you that Version 7 was the first version of ZORK I've uploaded on MOCpages. You can find it here , but I've also made an entry about ZORK's History, which features the first 6 versions as well.
ZORK also got updated once again, and since this update is far more obvious than the previous ones, I created a new entry for it which you can find by clicking on this link.
There were mostly two reasons to update ZORK this time:
1) Fixing his colour scheme (more white, less grey).
2) The poseability of his arms make poses were he hold his axe in both hands pretty hard (or impossible, to be precise).
After I saw the first images of the new Hero Factory sets in late November, I knew I could solve both problems with the new pieces.
Before I redo the entire text... all updates that lead to version 8.4 in short:
Ver. 8.0 -> New arms and legs
Ver. 8.1 -> New hands
Ver. 8.2 -> New Axe holder
Ver. 8.3 -> New upper leg piece (from Jetbug, it's one stud longer than the old one)
Ver. 8.4 -> A tiny update on the hands
I've FINALLY made also new pictures from him, so I could get rid of that "That picture features the old upper legs from Version 8.2" note. I even add a few new poses, yay!
ZORKs newest Version was also some sort of premiere for me in a few ways:
- It's the first Version of him with new designed hands (the gloves I used so far were introduced in Version 1)
- He's the first MOC using the new limbs and armour pieces of the 2011 HF-sets
- It's also the first Version of ZORK using HF-pieces
- To get the fingers (and some other parts) I made my very first BrickLink order
- He's also the first of my MOCs using these EXO-Force Robot-arms as fingers.
But enough boring talk from me, now let's head on to the pictures!

For starters, a dynamic pose.

His complete new hands, featuring five fingers. It was always a wish of mine to build a MOC with five fingers, and although the new HF fists does have five fingers, they re-use the design of the Glatorian fists, and I'm not the greatest fan of these.

Another shot of his new hand. It took me some time to came up with a design that works and is at least a little bit smaller than his original hand.
One of the best things about his new hands are all the gestures he can now pull off.

*Facepalm* (okay, he could do this with his old hands as well, but it looks much better with the new hands)

"OBJECTION!"

"ROCK YEAH!"

Show ya moves!

He can also fold his arms now. I really like this pose.

Action Pose, showing his enhanced poseability thanks to the new, excellent HF-limbs.

ZORYUKEN!
ZORK uses his signature move, the Zoryuken (which was inspired by Zero's Ryūenjin, actually).

A detail of his knee armour. To attach it to the HF-armour, I used a black 3-stud-rod (as used in the weightlifter MiniFig) and one of those Missile-rod-things used in various Star Wars and Atlantis sets. It was a bit tricky, though.

The new designed axe holder...

...shown from various angles. It uses two balljoints now, and thanks to this, I can place the axe much closer to ZORKs back but still keep a good poseability on it (which is important because of the wings). The old holder let it stand out quite much, and that didn't look good from several angles. Building and connecting that thing to ZORKs back costs me a lot of time and nerves (seriously).

His great mighty axe of awesomeness. The axe blade itself hadn't changed, but the lower end is new.

I always liked to make pictures of ZORK against the sunlight. Since the weather is still rather meh, this one is more against the clouds, but anyway, it looks cool, right?
And last but not least, some boring overview shots of his porportions.

And that's it. Although the building of the hands and the weapon holder were really challenging (and sometimes exhausting), I'm really, really happy with the final result, and that makes finally up for all the stress, right?
I hope you guys like this new version of ZORK as much as I do.

"See ya!"

I agree completely. His big hands are his defining feature. It's like Gringat with his odd socks.
Thanks Cheesy. I'm flattered that you compare ZORK's hands to Gringat's legendary socks. I think one of ZORK's defining trait are his contrasts. For example, he wields a massive axe (a weapon suited for ground combat), but he has wings. But his bulky hands also add to this, creating a contrast to his sleek, agile design. |

Hmmm... okay, first of all, the design of the hands (and thus, their size) was intended. I wanted to give him massive hands, so he got massive hands. About his body... I'm so far fine with the Inika build, and I would only replace it with a body design of the same size but with enhanced poseability (like shoulders and waist articulation). But until then, ZORK is fine as he is. |

Not the best but certainly not the worst. This moc shows alot of potential. I think it's great what you tried to do with the hands but you failed in terms of preportion. Either make him bigger or give him smaller hands. The ignika torso bothers me because i'm sure you could come up with some design for a custom body. The upshots- Great look. Sweet weapon. Amazing rain shot. I do hope you've taken into consideration what i've said. |

Hands are too big. MOC looks like Inika.
Well, ZORK uses the Inika build, so it's no surprise that he looks like one, though he comes with a few (minor) modifications. |

I absolutely love this . . . keeping it basic at the same time as adding lots of detail. Oh, and so you know, I will be using a similar hand design in my own Bionicle Moc (don't worry; i'll give ya the credit even though they look almost completely different :P ) |

Great Job and the big hands make him look like an awesome manga character! :D Great Job If you have time would you mind checking this out? http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/249327
Heh thanks. Actually, the character design of the DS game "Mega Man ZX" had some influence on ZORKs design (the colour scheme for instance), and the games art is pretty much Manga. |

Thanks for the comments!
I agree his hands are a bit too big, but I wasn't able to make them smaller yet without limiting the poseability of his fingers. By the way, like almost all of my MOCs, he doesn't have a custom body, he uses the old well-known Inika-Build. |
