This is my entry in C. Alexander Clay's Cliffhanger Contest!
About this creation
Although I am actually a judge in the contest, but I am allowed to enter one entry. I didn't think I would, but I had a stroke of genius (more of a heart-attack really) and decided to give it a shot.

This champion knight was just riding along peacefully to kill some orcs and a dragon or two, when suddenly, out of nowhere, he is himself attacked by the same creatures he sought to destroy! After a brief but bitter battle, he finds himself being pushed steadily to the edge of an abyss! He fights back with desperation, knowing that a false move now could very well be the end of him! Will he live to tell the tale of his adventures this time?

I was photographing the 8x15 vig when I thought, "I should try to give a reddish tint to these photos. Make it seem more warlike." About ten minutes later, I had rigged together a makeshift light filter from my trans red bricks and some hinge bricks I had within easy reach. It creates a nice effect, don't you think?

Orc's-eye view of the conflict.

The champion's predicament. Note the broken lance in the orc on the left there.

Another shot of his predicament. Nothing special.

This is one of three photographs that I took without the tinting. Unfortunately, this is really the only picture where you can see the fireball. Oh well. Live and learn, right?

The champion is thinking, "This is the last time I go on a tour in this part of the country; my fans look a little too aggressive!"

The above picture is the main picture without my weird lighting effects.

Hah! That 'champion' has not a chance! Hope he likes the look of the bottom of that cliff, because he is going to see it up close, real soon. |

Silmarillion characters? This is a very cool idea!! I already built Melkor and Cirdan and I made photos of Feanor, Fingolfin, Finarfin, Mim and Thingol which I never posted, because I hadn't the time yet... |

Cool scene! I like the fire-details....
PS: I know, that Elros was Aragorn's ancestor and the first king of Numenor (Tar-Minyatur). Remember .... I read the silmarillion! So I have to know this and you're right, I should have written this part.... but to write about his line and the ruin of numenor would be too long, so I excluded it.
Another thing: You hate the movies.... but why don't you add creations of your own imagination? There are actually groups for it (The Brick Riders) or (used the atlas of middle earth). I'd really love to see more creations of people like you, who know much about these books... ;)
The idea had occurred to me. I have been toying with the Fellowship for the last couple years. Of course, Gandalf (the Gray and the White) is done, but the rest are not quite ready. Ditto for the Nazgul. I have also taken a shot at the silmarillion's characters as well. Maybe Fingolfin or Feanor. They be tricky though. . . |

I'll give this a 9 out of 10. The deadline for adding entries is up, so you can start judging any time. |

Good entry! Nice lot of peril in this one! Glad more than one judge decided to enter, I was starting to think my job as a judges judge could be irrelevant. |
