In 2010 the district of Hoboken, Antwerp, where I live, celebrated its 875 anniversary. So they asked me to "make something". I designed a giant LEGO mosaic with local Landmarks, and asked kids from the 6th year of elementary school to help me build it.
About this creation
It all started with finding the right basic picture, which turned out to be this one: the district hall.
Then I asked my daughter to help me out chosing the right colours, where "Reddish Brown" was the tough decision to make.
I made the design, and explained children from almost all elimentary schools in the area what they could do to help me build the art piece.
Three people were needed to mount it (me being third, taking the picture :-) )
Annemarie Langmans, district official, unveiled this mosaic in front of the kids and about all local media.
So here it is: about 15 local monuments brought together in one LEGO mosaic...
breathtaking! great art! another classic! you must be a legend in your country! and rightly so!
I like it

I agree that it is an excellent idea to ask the children to participate... Most of us had to re-discover LEGO as adults - in this way we can avoid this 'mistake' ;o)
The work itself is stunning.
"Groots!!". (this is dutch)
Respect! (this is dutch too) ;o)))
