Cyber robot
this is my robot project
About this creation

ever since i remember, i wanted to build a robot,
i dreamed about it for a long time,
now, i think i have most of what it takes to do one,
wich i hope, the concept will contribute, [even if just in a small way],
for a better future, for man, animal, and plantkind.

i designed the tracks inspired by marc bazergui s work,
his work is based on nxt and technics materal,
is very inventive, and worth looking!

while it s here installed with technics motors,
it s the nxt motors that will motorize this,[x2]

i need to work on the frame a lot more to achieve a solid base.

the weight, the strenght, is impressive.
the control is the challenge, as it s pretty difficult
to devise a system to control it from a distance, without wires.
and that s exactly my intention to do so.

here we can see the arms framing,
it s not definitive, but, from experimenting a little, it works fine,
i don t lock the parts much now, as i may have to come back inside later.
there are a lot of configurations possible,
and i want the best lifting results!

i realy wanted the wrists to turn without limits,
as i find this movement fascinating on robots,
it s achieveable by letting a part of the pneumatic piston attached
to the other part of the framing,
since the piston turns inside it s casing,

the shoulder is a tricky spot too,
as it holds all the weight of the arm, and all it holds.
i m not sure that 1 piston will do the job here.
it lifts the arm now,
but, it s without a lot of parts i still need to install on it.
hopefully, my lego education dealer will have some pistons in stock to provide.
if i need to double the lifting power.

i knew i needed 2 here, for sure. [yellow ones]

the rubber bands are optional, as it closes without their help,
i just wanted a thighter quick grip, for experiments.

you can see the wrist movement with those pics.
and the piston

here, are the tools i needed to pursue my work on pneumatics;

a pump, some gauges, and tanks.
i can t imagine the patience one would need to progress without this kit.
as making a good and reliable air compressor, takes a lot measuring and patience.

[measuring pressure needs to move-lift, compressor capacity]
it did nt occured to me initially, but, different compressor designs,
give different performances, in a pneumatic project,
this 'detail' can kill a project, or make it work.

here, the kit in question, with all experiments suggested.
very practical and instructive.

max pressure;

42 psi [with manual big pump] time; aprox; 30 sec

38-40 psi my SOLAR compressor. time; aprox; 3 min [sunny day]

the gauges max;50 psi

while not very powerful on cloudy days,
the technics-educationnal solar panels 'shine' best on sunny days [of course]
included in the kit are charts of power levels.

these are the aprox power proportions differences;

in house 100 p
out cloudy 200 p
out sunny 400 p

on max, these babies can rock & roll!

but, this is what i ve been looking for in this,
a motor operated air compressor,
i ll study this very carefully,
as i intent on installing one on the robots powertrain s base.
wich will be solar powered!

in effect;
I will transform solar power, to pneumatic power.
interesting factor, pneumatic power does nt degrade!
it is temporaly resistant, unlike condensators [batteries]
which degrades over time.

this is my cyberlab,
as usual, i have to carry all the tools and material in the kitchen to work.
so this is all i have to make this.

[I don t live there anymore, but, the system remains]

i hope you ll see better,
i had most of this years ago,
the nxts took me out of my dark age, [2008]
but, after a few experiments,
i found i needed more for what i had in mind.

i spent a lot of time checking u tube,
and the nxt, pneumatic, and solar creations are just amazing!
but, nobody ever combined all technologies together!
that s what i think would be best,
but, of course, quite complicated.

i have amassed quite a lot of technics parts and gears over the years,
even when buying city themed kits,
and it should pay up now.

the solar kit case still holds all my small technics parts.

and finally, my 2 nxts, wires, sensors, and motors.

I bought my lap top,
i think i ll need a 3 rd nxt with blue tooth,
and the new solar solar tracking system elements to achieve my vision,
so, again, it s a long project.

i expect problems with the nxt generation software difference, and more...
since i m not so good in computers, i m in for a lot of studying for the next years.

thanks for your comments.

an ambitious project! Everyone loves robots! I like the wheel (bottom section) very much. And I think the upper body screams classic.

Quoting Fred Ottens i understand your problem fred! my girlfriend fixed it months ago! lol! for the robot, it s in the same condition, as i focused more on the city, but, i ll get back at it, as i freed the solar panel, and motors-dynamos from the municipal garage-recycling plant last week! i ll post something worth your while! thanks fred!

I guess by now it's already finished! I still got a lot of unread mails from MOCPAGES, because it was so slow for a long time I couldn't review them all. Still about 500 to go! So in time I'll find the result of this wip ;-) Greetings, Fred

Hi Cyberfrank, This robot looks very promising. With many great technical designs: I like the caterpillar tracks. And the wrist design. Please keep us informed about this project. You certainly built in different theme's! Bye bye, Vuurzoon.

Quoting Matt thanks matt, but, surely you do, it s a matter of patience and persistence mostly, it s a long project, it was sitting in a box for years. i ll check on your strenghts when i have time. thanks for your comment, i appreciate it!

Quoting Sebeus I you do? i d really like something from you to look at that s nxt, you have such talent and great inventory, i d love a page with what you have, its a real treasure. have you seen my cyber lab page? i show my sorting system, i d love to see yours, with what you did up to now,it must be worth studying! i intent on using only nxt motors, but, i might do so if i need the extra functions that badly. there is a limit of ports to be considered also. it takes a special sensor to control the other types of motors.

Quoting Nick Barrett too late, the damage is my brain, i sleep, and dream, about robot movements, what a brain storm! you ll be in for a lot of fun, as i m nowhere near your level with technics building, i mean that you ll appreciate your most excellent expertise level [transmission!] what will take me years, would probably take you months, i value your talents nick, be sure of that, as anyone who can do big technicscars that are so functional as yours! i m privileged!

Quoting Hans DendauwNPD have you ever experimented on nxt hans? with your talents, it would be unbelievable! the things, other than robots, someone can do with those... they don t call it 'mind storm' for nothing!

looks complicated, I see you also use motors, so you're gonna do a combination of IR motor functions and programmed NXT , looks cool (but still complicated) I have a NXT bot myself but haven't made a lot of progress so far :(
