About this creation
Prelude:
Although the ship's main structures had been healed by the mysterious Cylon repair resin, the rest of the Galactica was left in disarray following the Battle of the Colony and the subsequent departure to Earth. In the Crew Quarters, the Hangar Decks, and every hallway throughout the ship were left containers, shell casings, and the things associated with years of living on the ship.

Most of the information on what had transpired over the course of those years was in the multileveled Combat Information Center, or CIC. One structure, in the upper reaches of that facility remained a puzzlement, and no mention of it existed in the ship's log entries or schematics.

It was a large tub-like apparatus that, to everyone's best assessment, had been integrated into several of Galactica's systems. The Human engineers had disconnected it,and reconfigured the CIC to the original specifications. But what purpose it served and what, or who, went into it was a mystery.

FTL Tests Completed:
Except for a few delusional factions at the UN, people across the solar system were aware of the Alien Ship's purpose. It was certainly not a "Ship of Exploration" or "Discovery". It was obviously built for War, as was confirmed by the ship's extensive historical records. The Galactica, and a fleet of Battlestars like it, were created to defend the Twelve Colonies of Ancient Humanity from the Cylon threat.

These Robotic Life Forms, which later evolved into various human-like models, waged two wars on the Colonies, the last of which nearly resulted in Humanity's extinction. How a rebellion later occurred within their ranks was unclear, but some of them also became the founders of Humanity on Earth according to the DNA evidence.

The discovery of the Galactica and its past changed many attitudes on Modern Earth about the advancement of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Continuing the standing orders of the last Admiral, Adama, no networked computers or potentially corruptible electronic systems were allowed on the ship. The possibility to repeat history yet again was clear, and efforts were made to insure that it would not.

It was deemed necessary to not only make use of the new found technology, but also prepare the ancient warship for battle. If the Rebel Baseship survived, or if other Cylon forces existed elsewhere in the Galaxy, Humanity needed to be ready to defend itself.

Blueprints were utilized to recreate the full compliment of fighters and support ships. The Ancient Humans were such meticulous record keepers that no details were omitted, from construction to maintenance procedures.

It was a monumental effort of logistics to not only make the Galactica habitable again, but to fully stock the massive vessel. Fuel and Water Tankers, the largest ever built, were specifically constructed for the project. Food and various other supplies were amassed as well. Galactica was to be self sufficient for as long as possible.

It was assumed that the Galactica would at some point come to the aid of space outposts on humanitarian missions, as American Super Carriers had in the past.

But the new Commander, George Nempec, also felt it was necessary to be better prepared than the previous crew for a potential long-term combat mission. His experience in the British Royal Air Force and Space Command before his eventual private asteroid mining operation was considered a perfect background to take charge of such a vessel.

Ammunition for the Vipers as well as for Galactica's Main Batteries were fabricated and stockpiled to maximum capacity.
Squadrons of pilots and their support crews were recruited from the best militaries on Earth, and a Commander, Air Group, or CAG, was selected. Commander Leonard Barto, call sign Maverick, from the Naval Air Station, North Island in San Diego, California.

As a former instructor in the Top Gun Program in the U.S. Navy, Barto has taken command of the Air Wing, equal in rank to the Galactica's Commander. Rigorous drills were performed to increase deployment speed and efficiency.

It was known that the Rebel Cylon Baseship left when the Ancient Humans and their Cylon allies landed on Earth, but where they went and what they've become is unknown. The political and military leadership decided that the Battlestar Galactica needed to be prepared, as did the rest of Humanity.

I'm watching BSG now, season 1 episode 1. You have nailed the look and feel of BSG. Thank you for continuing the story.
This is where my story starts to get going as far as the characters go, Mav in particular. I also try and sneak in references to the show as often as I can. Thanks for checking it out! |

ok el barto, i m now past all the gorgeous backgrounds, the great interiors, the variety of neat spaceships of all sizes,i m now at the meat, the story, and it looks like a very good buildup! i m also very interested in seeing the
next installment! you ve done a very good job, since i m not particularly fond of the real serie, asfar as i m concerned, this is the true following of the 70s show!
Thanks for the compliments, there, Chief! I thought the BSG 1980 was one of the worst things ever on TV and was a big mistake. So continuing the story seems the logical progression. The next two installments are in preproduction, so stay tuned! |

Did you copy this?? From the looks of the background, and the way the light shines on it, it looks like you did. How did you get that background??
I'm not sure what you mean exactly. But what I do is find a background picture online, and try and photograph the ships in a similar lighting. I use Gimp software to layer the image over the background, badda bing! There's a photoediting group if you're interested in how this is done..."everything will be revealed"...

Well, you see, they left Sam in charge of the Fleet, and even though he was told to scuttle the ships into the sun, maybe he had other ideas, let the rest burn, and hide the Galactica in the asteroid belt. Why not, right? That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! How's your project? A lot of anxious fans waiting to see what you're up to! |
