The Battle of Stalingrad was fought during World War II as part of Operation Barbarossa and took place from 17 July 1942 to 2 February 1943. ~Note: his is my second attempt at the battle and I believe it is far better than the first version which I have since deleted.

About this creation

The battle was fought between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany along with armies from several other Axis states.

The initial German offensive proceeded rapidly with the Germans holding up to 90% of the city at times,however, the Russian defenders would not give up.

In November 1942 the Russian Army launched Operation Uranus. The operation turned the tide of the battle as the German army was surrounded and cut off. As the Russian Winter set in the German soldiers suffered from cold, starvation and ongoing Soviet attacks, until February 1943 German resistance ceased and the Axis army was destroyed.

The Battle ended in a major Soviet victory and made a German victory in the East all but impossible.
