Starcraft is the game that got me playing computer games again after I gave them up to concentrate on my university studies. This is my first Starcraft MOC; I built it back in August to coincide with the launch of Starcraft 2, but only just got round to posting it. Hope you like it!

About this creation

Just in case you're not a Starcraft junkie... the Goliath walker is employed by most Terran factions in the Koprulu sector as a light assault vehicle. Its twin machine guns give it reasonable firepower against infantry and buildings, but its greatest asset is its 'Hellfire' ground-to-air missile launchers, feared by pilots across the quadrant.

The Goliath is piloted by a single soldier with the rank of Sergeant.

A Goliath bearing these distinctive green markings was last seen under the control of the rogue telepath, Allen Schezar. If encountered he is to be terminated with extreme prejudice for his crimes against the Dominion!

Side, rear and top views. The computer game images are fairly unclear about where the surface-to-air missile launchers are located, so I decided to put them on the shoulders behind the flak shields.

2-legged walkers are a very impractical concept, which is why they're only found in sci-fi. The vast majority of designs would fall over as soon as they tried to lift a foot (*cough* AT-ST *cough*). So I decided that for my Goliath to be even vaguely plausible, it had to be able to balance on one leg, as during a walking motion it would spend most of its time with one foot off the ground. Ta-da!

The cockpit glass doesn't open - in this design the whole front of the cockpit lifts for access, which let me get some nice angles for the slopes.

Any mech that can stand on one leg is a beautiful piece of work in my mind! I also like how the whole front of the mech flips open for the pilot can access the cockpit. Nice touch.
