City Gate
There are a variety of different gateways to the ancient city of Glomshire.
About this creation

Glomshire's the name of a city as well as a country . . . well, most Glomshirians refer to the city as Glomshire Town just to avoid confusion, but if you've read the strip then you know that confusion is the natural order of things in Glomshire!

I decided to build this city gate and will probably use it for establishing shots from now on, after I tweak it a bit. It's not quite finished, but I needed to see how it would look photographed to make sure it's what I want. Being a comicker, I only build what I want the camera to see.

I know, I know. Somebody's going to say it needs more wall detail or that it's all gray. My answer: A. It's a wall. B. Anyone who thinks a wall can be "interesting" seriously is in need of a life. I ain't Professor Eggplant, you know, I'm just a schmuck who makes a castle comic.

Before anyone points out the obvious fact that the green areas are flat and plain, let me explain the concept of "field of fire." When you're trying to shoot at an oncoming enemy, particularly from a defended position, you don't want to give him anything to use for cover. If there's nothing to hide behind, he's going to have to have portable shelter or extreme courage because the Glomshire archers are deadly marksmen.

Ok, in reality I just built this because I wanted to post something. Didn't want ya'll to think I've gone over to the dark side or something (it's too late, anyway, and the cookies are delicious!)

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time. Great wall Dennis! That side-view shot is enchanting.

Nice design and very well eh gray, just kidding, LOL. I noticed someone mentioned it looking like a face, easiest way around this is not to make it symmetrical as many castles are built for defence and not for their aesthetics. Look forward to seeing it all dressed up in the series.

Nicely done. I agree with your comickers logic; I often do the same thing. You build a decent looking background, and then you let the minigs and dialogue become the focus. Thanks for the behind the scenes - now get it into a episode!

Quoting Chris Phipson By the power of Greyskull it looks like it's laughing from the front! Nice work man. And just to get in with what Dave was saying, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time! Can't wait to see it in the strip! ~ Chris.
Dagnabit, I did it again! I was trying to avoid the whole face thing. Oh well, too much work to redo it!

Well, I like this minimalist style, and I always did. Ask Chris, he'll tell you.

All you need is a taunter to hurl insults atop this wall.
