MSC Round 2 - Ribbits M - Team Minotaur.
My entry for Round 2 of the MOCpages Survival Contest. The category was science, so I thought an Exploration Rover would be perfect.
About this creation
MSC Homepage

Hello all! Welcome to the Hadron Industries showroom. Here we display our latest inventions and designs for you, the customer! After years of having to explore prospective colony sites and desolate moonscapes in flimsy, underequipped rovers, we offer you the option of not only exploring new territory and documenting your findings, but subjugating any unruly natives in the process! While not equipped for a full-scale conquest, the ER-101 'Oxford' Rover can defend itself in a fight, and collect important samples at the same time! With an all-terrain monowheel design, you can have the coolest rover on the block! (Scientists still care about that kind of thing, right?) Still not convinced? Then let's move on to the pictures!

First, you'll notice the sleek and elegant curves of the cockpit bubble and the ultramodern monowheel. Next, you'll notice the minigun.

This fantastic new rover simply oozes class, and can handle any terrain with style and comfort. Except water, in which it will sink. Comfortably. Until the air runs out and you painfully asphyxiate.

Now observe the rear of the Oxford. It mounts two antennae for long rante communications and has a small heat exchanger built in to cool the internal systems.

Mounted on the left side of the rover is a Type-41 Minigun. She weighs 150 kilograms and fires $200 custom tooled cartridges at 10,000 rounds per minute. It costs $400,000 to fire this weapon... for twelve seconds. We call her Sasha.

Many scientists have questioned the reasoning in arming our rover, but we believe in solving problems. For instance, say some local has just become enraged by your exploration team collecting his family for experiments and autuopsies. How do we stop him from tearing us a structurally superfluous new throat hole? The answer is a gun. And if that doesn't work, you didn't use enough gun. Therefore we have added the most possible gun to ensure that our clients remain breathing normally.

And because we would never dream of asking our clients to set foot in a hostile environment away from the control of their gun, we have an all-in-one surveying/data collecting/sample collecting device mounted onto the side of the rover opposite of Sasha.

Unlike our competitors, we have not only armed but armored our rovers, to provide maximum protection. One enters and exits through these armored hatchways.

An additional view of the heat exchanger and the comm mountings.

And finally, this is where the pilot is seated. Mounted immediately below him is a floodlight for use during conditions with low visibility or during a night cycle. Or whenver, I mean it's totally up to you. And directly behind the pilot are fancy readout displays and things like that. You know, science-y thingies.

And with that, we end our product demonstration. Thank you looking, and to make a purchase please proceed through corridor B to our merchandising desk. There, our Salesmen will negotiate prices. We accept cash, credit, checks, coins, unrefined gold, uncut gems, your immortal soul, limbs, precious metals, a product of equal or greater value, and your firstborn offspring as payment. Please make all payments to Hadron Industries. If you would not like to make a purchase, our Public Relations representatives will be along shortly to assist you out of the nearest airlock. Once again, thank you for looking and have a great day!

WHAT!? *Groan*...I missed THIS too? Well, I'm glad. You disappoint me so, Ribbits. It's not even symmetrical! I'll have to give you....a 5/5. I hope you do worse in the future, the pure awesomesauce of it burned holes through my eyes! I've got new ones with laser beams, though, but I can't spare those. Do you even KNOW how much Bullion costs? Sheez, I had to give up the money for my bricklink order of 67 frogs! Oh woe is me...the pain! I think I'll go curl up in a corner in a fetal position and cry my heart out. *Sob*

Quoting Stuart Delahay Ribbits, however you dress it up, it's a heavily armed and armoured frog-unicycle. And that is worthy of great commendation. Good job!
I think that's the best description I've heard for it.

Quoting Nicks Bricks Wow, great take on the category, this is pretty cool with one wheel, 16/20~Nick
Thanks! I appreciate the score!
Quoting Lando L. Jackson I find that quoting TF2 while describing ridiculously large shooty-things adds a certain gravity to them. "It requires 400,000 dollars to fire this weapon... FOR TWELVE SECONDS."
I don't know about gravity, but it does make me feel like I gained a couple hundred pounds. And a Sandvich.
Quoting David Stockholm I freaking love you for the TF2 lines. Probably my favorite game. I feel so happy, looks amazing BTW. </nerd rant> :P
I really enjoy the game, even if I'm no good at it.
Quoting Flare . 18/20
Thank'ee matey! I do be appreciatin' th'score!
Quoting Chris Phipson 18 points! ~ Chris.
Many thanks, Sir Chris! Thine score is most welcomed!
Quoting ontopovamountain perry yay! Another monowheel mecha, do you except sucker-punches as payment?
Actually, this isn't a mech. This is a vanilla vehicle, a mundane mover, or a regular rover. It did start out as a mecha though. However, we do not accept violence of any sort as payment. It's a rather unstable currency.

Quoting Stuart Lucas Another unique-looking piece of greebly goodness. If only real scientists got to play with things like this (I should know, I work in a lab!) I give you 16/20
You slipped past me in my mass response, so you get your own personalized reply! Thanks for the score, it warms the depths of my black heart. And if real scientists got this kind of thing, I'd be first in line for a studies course!

Quoting A minute ago ... Aaah...more froggy controlled machines? Ingenious! Nice work on this one.
Of course! The day I stop building froggy machines entirely is the day I've lost my sense of humor.
Quoting christophe corthay WOW !!!! VERY COOL !!!
THANK YOU !!!
Quoting Master Shifu Leo J Frog domination is upon us! Pretty cool monowheel exploration rover!
I, for one, welcome our new amphibious overlords.
Quoting T.K . Great! A really strong build and good luck with the judges! Could you check out my entry? Thanks.
Thank you! And sure thing! I'll get right on that.
Quoting Firn ! Argh! I'd like to rate this with 20 points, but it contains a wee bit to much fiction for a scientific build. but because this is a piece of Awesomenesss it gets 17 points.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it that much!
Quoting Ced The Clever Man! How do you pack so much into such a small area? Awesome!
With a pair of corsets, some packing tape, and lots of lube.

Quoting Cody G Awesome work, I love the monowheel!
Thanks! I don't think there are enough monowheels roaming the interwebs yet.
Quoting El Barto ! Killer! I dig the wheel! I have a few of those myself, makes a great DRADIS tower, too, by the way.
I keep finding uses for those things myself. I doubt I'll ever get tired of them!
Quoting Waffles . "first-born offspring" That reminds me of this fail on failblog yesterday... This lady tried to buy a car from her grandmother with her baby. But anyway, great mono-wheel here Ribbits. Sasha is very sleek looking. ~Waff
Wow, that's hilarious! And thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Quoting 000 000 Blood diamonds included? Anyhow, $400,000 for merely 12 seconds of fire, smells like opulence to me... yet realistic.. if you can't tell, I simply adore "Sasha"
Of course! It's a diamond. We don't turn down ill-gotten gains. I was just waiting to find a use for her myself, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity!
Quoting ODST . Um, I guess I'll pay in refined gold.
That sounds reasonable. However, precious metals must be cast into a statue of our CEO.
