FORTRESS MAXIMUS
Finally its done .. over 2 feet tall and fully transforms from City to Fortress to Robot its .. Fortress Maximus!
About this creation
After over a year of work on an off, I finally got around to finishing my Fortress Maximus design. Over 2 feet tall and very heavy, this creation is fully transformable and is designed to look similar to the original G1 toy. I was inspired to build this by pictures I saw from Alan Yap's creation click here to see it
and the fact that I did not have this Transformer as a kid.

You can see from my build reports over the course of 2010, click here to see build report 1 , click here to see build report 2 , click here to see build report 3 , that I have changed many aspects such as the fists and Cerebros from the original build. I decided to omit Grommet and headmaster Spike as I though the detail would not look good enough being that they would be very small. I don't know if I will build another Lego Transformer this large again! (unless of course Chris Phipson gets me a dumptruck full of orange and yellow Lego to build a Unicron) Enjoy and Please comment!

Since Fort Max here is so big he was hard to photograph, so hopefully you will get the gist of things from these shots.

Just Amazing... I love the cerebros design, you might want to try and do more headmasters sometime...

Yeah although it makes it bulkier, worm gear is the way to go if you want to hold certain poses. I'm working on a the hulk right now that will probably have them in the shoulders and possibly the hips. Your might have to go full gear if you ever build a unicron!

just various ratchet type joints and a great centre of gravity - may upgrade the shoulders to worm gears as there is a lot of stress there!
Quoting M McCooey This is why you are the Legoformers king. What's he built like internally? A worm gear turntable system?

i probably could but i stick mostly to g1 characters so i don't think it would likely happen anytime soon
Quoting Sam Sanister If you can do this, can you build tf armada Megatron and Tidal Wave, with Tidal Wave able to powerlink(I think that's what it's called)with Megatron?

my design is more flexible than the original toy - but still can use a few upgrades when i get a chance!
Quoting Inferno Thirteen After watching a review of the original G1 toy, I'd say that this actually looks better.

This is brilliant i have made my own version of this but it is no where near as tall or good you should try a primus or unicron MOC

At one point I had desinged a tranforming spike but in the final model the head looked to big for cerebros so I went with a non transfoming version but there is always a possibility of a version 2.
Quoting marc chase I own the Toy Fortress Maximus/headmaster from the 1980-1990's toy line and when I saw this creation I thought It was the toy, it looks better then the real thing, if I could I would give you 100 stars for this one. that said one question. does Cerebros' head also transform into Spike, like the toy or is this based on the Japanese cartoon that does not?

Sithspit, that's just nuts. I don't know my Transformers nearly well enough to say how accurate this is, but honestly it's breathtaking. I can't say I've ever been a big fan of Transformers's basic look and style, but I think I can say that you captured it perfectly. if LEGO ever considers designing Transformers sets, you'll probably be the first designer they come to. :P sadly, I'm afraid MOCpages lacks the ability to rate this thing high enough.

The headmaster Spike I made was a little too out of proportion so a regular head was used instead on the final version, but there is always V2.LOL!
Quoting andros tempest 10/10 for building on such an epic scale 10/10 for including about 80% of all the stuff that came with the original toy (I don't see spike? is your cerebros a head master too?) 9/10 for toy accuracy - the arms look a little small compared to the proportions of the original toy and animation model. A build to be proud of, certainly one of your most ambitious.

amazing! I only have two criticisms, and one of them, I completely acknowledge to be stupid: his head doesn't turn into a head. I know, you'd need to make him way bigger for that to work, I admit it's stupid...i dunno. second criticism is actually a related problem, but I can't fault you for it because has/tak have never been able to get it right either: none of the city formers are ever big enough to be considered a city. all that said, you did what appears to be a better job at making him than has/tak ever did.

Quoting M<0><0>DSWIM ! WOOOOOW!!!!! Best transformer ever! Love this massive thing. The extending cannons in the legs are great and love the head/Headmaster design. I have the G1 toy somewhere and he's all white with no detachable head. I don't remember a Headmaster version. Great work!
