About this creation
My entry for Dem Bones Haunted Halloween Contest round 2!
Category: Monster Movie Diorama: A diorama with the base being at least 16x16. In this, you must build a scene from a monster movie, no restrictions on which one, so you want to do modern, go ahead.
Movie: Nightmare Before Christmas
Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red
I am the one hiding under yours stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair

This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise
Round that corner, man hiding in the trash cam
Something's waiting no to pounce, and how you'll...
Scream! This is Halloween
Red 'n' black, slimy green

Aren't you scared?
Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
Everybody scream, everbody scream
In our town of Halloween!

I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Halloween! Halloween!

Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween
In this town
Don't we love it now?
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everyone scream
Wont' ya please make way for a very special guy

Our man jack is King of the Pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
La la-la la, Halloween! Halloween!

Fourth Wall Commentary: Blah blah blah missed the first week of build time due to being out of town. Blah blah blah work schedule is NUTS! Blah blah blah only had a few hours to build…

Ok, now that the excuses are over, let get down to it. I had a few ideas on what to do for this round. The Bates Hotel and the Kraken from Clash of the Titans (the original) were a couple ideas that were spinning round my head for this contest.

In the end however, I decided to go with Jack's house from Nightmare. Only having a few measly hours to build this in was no easy trick either. Especially when my first attempt was minifig scale… I actually built the tower part on that first but after 4 separate failing attempts to get the thing to balance (yeah, had to rebuild the tower 3 times before I gave up) I decided to go microscale.

As a moc on its own, I’m actually really happy with this. It was a fun little build. As for a contest entry… Hey, we all saw Leda’s Monster House. I know where I stand HAHAHA.
Ok then, wish me luck and Happy Halloween everyone!
Till next time true believers!
~Chris.
P.S. The AFOL brick is NOT in this build. I’m not adding it to contest entries.

i come to expect a lot from you, but, the time factor has to be considered, and the roof and atmosphere were very well done, i would have loved, if you ve had had the time to add more pics of something extra with the house, you have lots of great pics, but, of the same subject. overall, for a couple of hours, you did great!

Absolutely love the music for this movie, and you pulled off the tower perfectly! Hey, you never sent me that link you mentioned at Octobrickfest, any way you could do that soon? Thanks, and great work. |

Agreed, I would have liked to see a little more action, but I can't complain, considering how awesome it looks anyway. Happy belated Halloween! |

Slack as I am, i'm just catching up on my fave's builds, including this one. I love the build here. The (small) disappointment for me is the lack of action, but I am greedy! Atmospheric and nicely presented, but I too will now spend the rest of the day with Danny Elfman's music ringing around my head, so cheers Chris! |

I think your idea and presentation are excellent. However, after viewing the film yesterday, I think it would have been possible to use more of the complex techniques you utilized on the roof to give the bottom portion of the house a more accurate look. 14 points. |

GREAT! NOW I'VE GOT THAT FREAKING SONG STUCK IN MY HEAD! As much as I love that movie and that curved wall you've got there, it seems a bit too simple looking. 13 points. |

14 points, a great build as always, just shy on pics presentation, I agree black and white would have nailed it, and would have loved to see some figs milling about, but never the less, it's just shy of perfect! Welcome back from vacation by the way, I haven't gone anywhere, and you are still outbuilding the crud out of me, you really mustn't sleep! |

Excellent build on the house as well as the dio setting. IMO, the presentation would have been more 'pronounced' if the pictures were black and white rather than blue. Score = 13. |

One of my all time favorite movies! Problem is, that I never know when is the right time to watch it....Do I watch it during Halloween, or during Christmas? The kids however, make me watch it whenever they feel like. As for your build, it's excellent! Great lighting used in the pics also. It's just missing a bit of "oomph" that a couple other builds have brought to the table. Score of 14. |

Hey Chris,
Alright so I left MOCpages Help group due to the unceasing chatter that clogs up your activity bar, and my LEGO glossary was somehow taken off of the creation list. I do apologize for the trouble but just notifying you of the loss. Hey thanks Chris,

Ya know, for someone with a lot of excuses this is a pretty darn nice MOC! For starters, great choice. (God, I love that movie!) Additionally, you've got some solid techniques in there. I like the way you tackled the roof, and the tower looks terrific. Happy Anniversary right back at ya, my friend, and nice work!

Very nice, Chris! I love the lighting and, of course, the build! I almost picked this movie for my build, but went with a different Burton film. You'll have to wait and see. Great stuff, man! |
|

Ah. Well, when I think 'Monster Movie,' I think 'Horror,' like 'Alien' or 'Friday the 13th' or 'The Exorcist.' I guess I need to broaden my horizon on that. |

Quoting El Barto !
Cool house, Chief! But, uh, like, where's the monster and stuff?
The category said "Monster Movie." It didn't say you had to show the actual monster(s). And this movie is chock full of em! Thanks for all the great comments guys!

In a few hours you managed a curved wall, some funky textures, a balancing act, and the rest? Now I feel like a slug. And you are now an apostle in the house of Alex, or am I misreading what the fountain of photography wisdom is. |

Yes! Nightmare before Christmas. I love this movie and try to watch it around Halloween each and every year.
Not only you captured Burton´s style in perfect detail, after seeing this I can only repeat what I told Blake earlier: Thanks to you I start to like micro-style more and more. |

I love A Nightmare before Christmas! Tim Burton is a genius. Excellent entry, and I honestly only noticed it was micro scale when you pointed it out. Now that's pure genius right there! The claymation style suits lego very well and I think you have done a superb job at this. |
