Monster House
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Round 2 of Dem Bones Haunted Halloween. Category: Monster Movie Dio!
About this creation

Jenny: "The furnace is the heart, if we wanna put out the fire we're gonna have to go inside..."

D.J: "First we build a dummy - we fill the dummy with a few gallons of cold medicine - feed the dummy to the house, house eats the medicine, goes to sleep, we get in, douse the fire and get out."

Chowder (whispering): "Alright little vacuum-cleaner dummy I'm gonna move you into position... You don't be scared, that's not how I trained you... I love you vacuum-cleaner dummy."

"TRICK OR TREAT!"

D.J: "plug it in!"

If you want to see what happens, watch:

MONSTER HOUSE!

A wonderful spooky 3D animation film about a house that is alive with the spirit of a lady who doesn't like kids.
On Halloween night, these three friends, D.J, Jenny and Chowder try to put a stop to the evil house that is kidnapping children and their toys...

In this scene I chose, the kids attempt to get inside with the means of this home made "vacuum-cleaner dummy" dressed as a trick or treater...

Now to my moc, it never occurred to me I wouldn't be able to get the broomstick handle through the arm holes of a minifig torso... have you ever tried it? Doesn't fit! Oh well... rubber-band it had to be!

THE HOUSE IS ALIVE!

In the movie, this house is a glorious old run-down, weather-beaten, closed up, dark weatherboard house, frightening even in its non monster like state...

When the house wakes up from her normal state, the railings of the balcony become teeth.

This is just a fašade because my parts count is not even close to the level of most AFOLs on mocpages... I had so much fun with this build that I'd love to revisit it someday in the future and build the entire house when I have upped my collection enough.

It was immense fun making this decrepit old house seem alive. Actually I think it was the most fun I've ever had building anything... and in my humble opinion I think it is my best build to date. It was definitely the most challenging!

Oh, and what Leda build would be complete without this:

Notes: Well that's it for the Halloween contest. Thanks Mister Bones for devising it and thanks judges for giving up so much time (even with some of you in the MOC Olympics!) to judge 30+ entries! It has by far been my most enjoyable contest yet in the one year I have been a part of MOCpages. This dio and my Frankenstein vig are my proudest creations and a great way to see out my first year. My anniversary is one week away and I will let this coincide with that as I doubt I will be able to complete the build I have started in time due to a busy work schedule in the real world...

I hope you enjoyed this Monster House, and if you haven't seen the movie yet I very much recommend you do! It is expertly made with fantastic visuals.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

What was it that gave it away?
Quoting Timmy Kid Hope ya won that contest, I kinda have no care in contests, but I hope you won.
thank you. Me and two others tied for 1st place... my round three tie breaker entry will be posted in about a week or so.
Quoting Jacob Driggers this was a awesome creation to a awesome movie hey can you at least show us how to make the greedo distraction
Its pretty straightforward... there is a very clear pic of it, I am sure you can figure it out by looking at that... its just a minifig torso without arms, a monster head, a decorated slope for the vacuum (I think it might be some kind of car part) and a broom with a pumpkin head.

Perhaps the most striking feature of this MOC is the facade coming to life. Great techniques for all the uneven tiles. Must be painful to build. There's is some level of "cuteness" to the build that adheres to the essence of the movie. The photography is also excellent. Score = 15.

First of all, fun fact: My ex and Amber share the same name, so while I do call her by the wrong name every now and again she would never know the difference. :P This entry is excellent all around! Especially originality! Score of 15. Good luck with the other judges.

Its sounding good so far little dude, I'm pleased you have the characters fleshed out, and a semblance of a story in the making. Sounds like you are well on your merry way! Sorry, I'm not joining any more groups (unless for an interesting contest) so I wont closely follow it, but you're welcome to ask for some input on aspects you are struggling on... within reason.

Quoting Green Man you forgot DJ's red cape, but that's just nit-picking. You did a great job! 5/5! ~Stay green my friends
Chowder's red cape. And I actually agonised over that cape for a while. I considered cutting up a cape, because it is just a little cape and not a full body one like Lego makes, but couldn't bring myself to do that. So I left it out. If I had a red bandanna I would have used it backwards, but alas, I have no red bandanna.

Quoting Matthew Novosad
I'm really pleased to hear Avery and Saturday are doing so well and have settled in nicely. Don't worry about Avery not liking his bed anymore, he obviously just prefers to sleep in with you. As for their hunting skill I am impressed! We don't have those animals here in NZ, but if we did my Toby would bring them in. He's also a superb hunter, always catches birds, mice and rats, I'm sure he'd love to sink his teeth into a squirrel or chipmunk! If they are eating them, then they are just enjoying their natural instincts, but if they leave the body for you, then they obviously feel you have given them a wonderful home and are rewarding you by finding the biggest catch they can as a gift to your family. You wont be able to stop them hunting, because when they are out on the prowl they are imagining they are lions, hunting zebras in the pride-lands... they sound like real characters!

Quoting Hans DendauwNPD Yes, yes it was. That does not matter, as the category is Monster Movie Dio; no restrictions on when said movie was made.
Actually Hans I recall reading in the rules here that the dio must be before 1970. I am still waiting for a response from a Admin before I start sticking my foot in my mouth though. http://www.mocpages.com/group_conversation.php?id=13791&topicid=57465 EDIT: I now find that those comments were in response to R1 questions. Thank you Hans for clarifying before I make an even bigger fool of my self;)

I loved that movie! I saw it on New Year's though, still it was good. BTW Avery and Saturday have been doing WONDERFULLY lately. Except they LOVE hunting animals. We realize it's their instinct and all, but what is troubling is that they are moving to bigger and harder targets. Squirrels, chipmunks, birds, so much carnage! Also, we think Avery has some bad memories attached to the bed that he and his brother love/d. Sat still sleeps there, but Avery seems kinda scared of it, maybe that is where he was when Animal Control came. Otherwise they have been doing well and Avery seems to be around me the most. He absolutely loves sleeping on my bed, and being near me. Anyway, great MOC.

Quoting Minifig Maniac Soooo? Any ideas?
Kid, you're on the second page! Seriously. I'm not writing your book for you. You have to have an idea before you start writing, saying to me "I'm writing a fantasy book, got any ideas?" gives me no information at all. What kind of fantasy are you into? Do you have any characters yet? etc... I can help you with character developement, exciting incindents, descriptive words and phrases and the like once you have the groundwork fleshed out, but you need to come up with the basis of the story on your own...

It wouldn't be fair for me to judge yours before everyone else's, as I have put a hold on judgments until next Monday. However, excellent job! I will reserve further comment until next week. On the question as to whether this fits the category, it does without a doubt. Bones said modern movies fit the bill in round 2.

I see where Mr. Bones quoted about 1970's monsters, but I believe he's actually referring to the Round 1 Classic Monster category. The official rule states "Monster Movie Diorama: Not a vig, but a diorama with the base being at least 16x16. In this, you must build a scene from a monster movie, no restrictions on which one, so you want to do modern, go ahead." --- Therefore, there's no infraction here.

Quoting Blake Baer Monster house, wasn't that made in 2006?
Yes, yes it was. That does not matter, as the category is Monster Movie Dio; no restrictions on when said movie was made.
