My entry to Round 5 of the MocOlympics in Magipunk.
About this creation
For Round 5 of the MocOlympics, I was given the category of "Magipunk." The summary was stated like this:
"Magipunk" Build futuristic yet rough technology powered by magic!
Sounding like something coming out of Kelso's weird dreams, i quickly set to work, on what would prove to be my most challenging but fun entry, or shall I say entries, yet. I hope you enjoy viewing these as much as I enjoyed building them. I chose not to [put these in a diorama, because I thought that a diorama with these would look very cluttered and I also wasn't sure how to combine them. Anyway, enjoy!

This first picture is of my first build in this category, a mechanical dragon. I thought that dragons are probably the most magical of creatures and making them mechanical is the epitome of magipunk. This creation was soon born.

Here is the front of said dragon, with its fearsome rider. I am quite proud of how the head turned out although I wish I had noticed the badly angled cheese-slope nose before I wrote this, but oh well.

Side.

Back.

Close up of head.

The dragon can stand unsupported.

Dragon next to the rider.

This cannon, although not exactly magipunk, was made because I thought that the dwarf mech, appearing later, needed an even match. I finished the cannon late last night and am quite proud of it. It looks so cool. this is also the first time that I have used inside-out tires for something and I really like the effect, although it was a pain to stretch the tires over the barrels. I also really like dark tan. I may keep this cannon together for a while.

Side.

Back.

Side.

Top.

The flying ship, "Finklewipper's Fury" was another spur of the moment build. i knew that I couldn't survive on dragon and mech alone, so I made this. it was pretty fun to make and I really like the propellers. Who new Atlantis could come in handy?

Front.

Side.

Back.

Top. the ship flies using the huge propeller things, also known as rigging on other pirate ships. Shhh. You didn't notice anything. And besides, it is magic, right?

I am sorry for the blurriness, but this picture is to sow you how creepy the new Dobbie head is. Or Finklewipper. Whatever.

Attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now for the big kebang, the mech. His name is "Ol'Stompy." He likes to smash. This build took me probably four days to get right, but I am very happy with the end result. I hope you judges and viewers are too. (He may be going to Brickworld if I can get a magipunk collaboration going.) For this build, I decided that if dwarfs had magical technology, the first thing they would do is created a large mech so that they could feel tall and smash their enemies instead of vice versa. "Ol' Stompy" was born. The base is there to give it some mountain-y feel. I know it sucks.

Side.

Back. You may wonder what these ladders are for. You will soon find out...

Legs. they were designed first. this one's for Phipson.

Driver.

Back open.

Dwarf Climbing down/up. he needs all of the unfolding ladders to successfully enter.

Height difference.
Well, that's that. I tried my hardest and now all I can do is wait for Giovanni to post. No matter what happens, this has been a blast and I wish all who continue on the best of luck.

Wow, these are great, the cannon is my hands down favorite, but they are all great! They actually bring me back to my youth and remind me of Warhammer figurines I used to have. Regards and best of luck next time. |

Really nice work! The mechanical dragon was by far my favorite for it's wings and tail, and the head looks brilliant as well. |

Just a heads-up:
A few people in the NEOS want to begin the tournament early. If the majority of the competitors want to do this, then my fellow judges and I will start the contest either next monday (Nov. 1) or the monday after. If you are against this, please voice your objections in the NEOS group in the appropriate thread. If you do not post an objection, you will be considered in favor of starting the contest early.
Thanks, and keep on building! |

The dwarven mech and the dragon flyer are great, but it seems to me you lacked confidence in your builds, so instead of refining and giving a context to the main ones, you just added more MOCs (I may be wrong, it was just a feeling). Plus, Gio hit me straight to the heart with his MTG post. I vote for him.
I thought that I voted for Brian kescenovitz to judge. Stupid Gio and his use of bionicle pieces. I also just wanted to build more because I felt like it. i was confident, gio was colorful. You are a Ciao-der head. I'm not bitter. |

Way to go, Tyler...you're giving Gio a real run for his money. He's a great builder, so that's saying a lot. But you've also shown us you can throw down with the bricks, so I'm anxious to see how this match up plays out. Both of you guys really came through on this round. |

Tyler, this totally rocks!! All of your builds are solid, but I would have to agree that the cannon is my favorite! It turned out absolutely perfect, and I thin you should keep it built up for next year's BW. You have piqued my curiosity enough to see if I can sketch out a few builds to contribute to the display. Good luck with the rest of the judges! Remember, we need 3 votes to get by this round, so best of luck! |

Wow, Tyler, this was a really close one to call. You did some wonderful work with the dragon, and I loved the mech. It really felt like a dwarf design in it's bulk and stature. In the end, though, I had to go with Gio. It really came down to the color work he did, and how he applied it to part of the concept. Nevertheless, this was a really good entry, and probably the toughest call I've had to make throughout the competition. We'll have to see what the others say, but in the mean time...excellent work!
Thanks anyway, I guess it's now down to Bonesy. In retrospect I should have made a skeleton mech. |

Tyler, I hate to say this but, Gio is my friend and his build is beautiful. However, your dragon's awesomeness exemplifies the genre for me. Therefore, good sir, you get my vote! I love the mech, and the cannon is great (You're correct in assuming that not everything magicpunk operates by magic.)
Thanks a lot. You're the best. |

Highly impressive! The body of the mech could use some spicing up, unless you intended it that way. The ladders are hilarious! I think your dragon was my favorite, and oddly, I was really drawn to the wheels on the cannon. Weird. Overall a fantastic build!
It was intended to be bulky and boring because dwarfs are very utilitarian. |
