This is the Trade Federation Droid Control Ship from Star Wars Episode I.
About this creation
After many long months I have finally finished my Trade Federation Droid Control Ship from Episode I. It contains about 13,200 pieces and weigh's approximately 30 pounds. It is 112 cm long from front to back and 102 cm wide from side to side.
It took about 100 hours to design and 3 month's to construct (about 250 hours of contruction time). I used a detailed picture of the ship from the Episode I Incredible Cross-Sections book to help design it. Around the inner and outer walls of the ship are over 1000 yellow transparent lights which light up once a light source is placed inside (See image below).
To design this with Lego was more difficult than all the lego work I've ever done in my life combined. Obviously Lego and curves don't mix. I initally designed a circle with 24 sides as a template and "shaved" off some of the sides to make way for the hole in the front and engine section at the back. I decided to do the curvature around the outer hull using a similar style to Lego's Death Star - angled plates which fit together to form a curved shape.
The central sphere was also very difficult. I initially wanted to do the sphere like the death star but thought it would look to "polygonish" so I found a program on the web for generating
a 28 stud wide sphere using rectangular bricks. Just the sphere has almost as much pieces as my Trade Federation cruiser.
Finally, if your wondering, the total cost of the ship is about $1750 US. And this doesn't take into accout the hundreds of hours of design and construction time. I purchased most of the pieces off bricklink, the others came from ebay.
I'm working on building all the ships in the Trade Federation fleet. Up next is the Banking Clan communications frigate from Episode III. I've finished the design for it and am currently working on gathering the pieces for it.
question do you also have an LDD file of this?
If so would you be so kind to send it by mail?
Would really really appreciate it,
Thanks in advance,
And great modelling
This is more than excellent, 1000/5!! This must be so hard to build, and it looks very heavy ( and it is, probably the heaviest MOC I´ve ever seen!).Great detail, everything great or more than great!! Fantastic!!
Just so ya know, this is a comment for all of your stuff, These things are amazing! Where do you get the money to buy all the pieces to build these monumental masterpieces! I mean if i tried to rebiuld even the most simplest of your creations, I would be putingit to shame and I'd go broke! U R GOD!!!!
id give it 999993204968945678976897054689797624809672489078976905790347689247656987436754679346792797598674567947954765486754678936789246728945678957689274986579679852768934768975248768935768927456987249687528967298765829768952768924576825932768925768952768924576824595796729487689 stars if possible!!!!!

Good GRAVY this thing's awesome!!! I just can't believe what a spectacular creation you've brought to the table here. I'll quit polishing the floor with my jaw now. ;) Thanks for the LA nomination! ~Keep It Studly Sir
Unbelieveable and just plain AMAZING! I have never seen a lego that big with that certain amount of pieces! It has a huge amount of accuracy while also just making it look plain SWEEEET! Amazing detail and very clever to include a light source to light it up in the dark (my personal favorite feature). Hats off to you for your excellent skill and design in lego building. Your talent will bring great things for the rest of your life! Also, congrats on winning creation of the day!(no wonder it grabbed so much attention!)
what are those gray prong things in the last picture? they're way too big to be vultures (according to my estimate a vulture droid would be like the size of the O in LEGO printed on the tops of studs). So how awesomely huge would this be if you built it to the same scale as your Invisible Hand model (I'm thinking more than 3 meters diameter).
Anyways this really is an awesome build, the Droid Control Battleship is one of my favorite Star Wars battleships ever and you totally do it justice.
Wow on a stick. This deserves more than MOTD, it's a sculpture more than it is a toy. With the lights on it may just be the best MOC I've seen on this site, and I don't even particularly like Star Wars!
i really like it. i think the deck looks good. can you open its top to put droids in? that would make ti authentic to the max. i tried to make a republic cruiser but its not even close :P so i designed my own one. its black instead and took about 5 hours but looks quite good. its like a miniture version of the acclamators assault ship but the bridge is better. it has windows at front and on tower.
btw my group was for models of clones and clones v droids but i would like it if you joined.
all of your creations are beyond amazing! I still can't believe how perfect you made the sphere in the middle! I don't even know what to say about it, just a model that has perfected perfectism(if that makes sense)... :)
exceptional! my only, lets say, concern is that the forward docking arms should look a little more like, well, arms. the way you have it, they are more flush with the hull.
other than that though, great model!
"Reviewing" this would be absurd (can't imagine a legitimate criticism), but I'll certainly join the chorus of praises on a beautiful MOC. I've seen so many excellent creations they're too numerous to count, but this, in comparison is stunning, and in a rare group of truly memorable works. Well done, and looking forward to more!
i think the "wow"s and "omg"s below sum it up well but i will add to them by saying that the curves you have managed to achieve are excellent and this is definetly one of the best MOCs i have seen on this entire site!
