Happy Halloween!
About this creation
From Universal Studios Classic Monster Series I bring you Frankenstein. Released in 1931 in the early years of the "talkies" this film is a breathtaking cinematic treat for the eye. It is a moody, dark, stylised and extremely polished piece of classic cinema that still stands bold and strong today, 80years after it was made. Directed by James Whale, it stars Colin Clive as Dr. Frankenstein and the legendary Boris Karloff as the woeful and tragic monster created in a lab, sewn together from dead body parts and with the brain of a murderer.
Here is my entry into Dem Bones Spooky Halloween Contest Category: Classic Monster Vig.
In the climax of the film Frankenstein's Monster is cornered by an angry mob of townsfolk inside an old windmill on the top of a hill. They set the windmill alight and the monster is trapped and burned.
Meet the monster:

And meet the mob:

With the restrictions of the category being 8x8 base this was a real challenge to pull off the entire scene!

So starting at the bottom let's work our way up...
The angry mob climb the hill with their torches and pitchforks.

The mid-section, where the mob have set the windmill alight and watch as the flames take hold of the dry old wooden frame...

And up we go to the top!

The flames engulf the windmill as the monster howls from the top, screaming for his life as he is trapped.

And here is the monster, this movie is both tragic and horrific. A monster created from death, by the hands of man given life which he does not want nor understand, and then by the hands of man he is killed.

Notes:
Yes, there are a lot of pictures, you're right! Well, there are a lot of detail in this moc and I wanted to show them all...
but because you were so diligent and made it all the way to the end, here is a little treat for you all:

I lined the inside of every window with transparent orange bricks and placed a couple of LED lights inside the build... so when the lights go out on all hallows eve...

Ooo! Ahh! Cool!

Thanks for watching!

Wow, it is amazing how this creation 'grows' out of the 8x8 plate. Love how the crowd is ascending the rock and burning down house. Donīt know which pics I like more: the light ones where you can see all the details, or the dark ones with the really impressive light effects. Very movie worthy! ~Cheers |

This is a perfect example of how the 8X8 rule should be abused respectfully. Build up, up, up!! I'm not keen on folks who build a 64X64 base and slap an 8X8 plate underneath to slip into the rules. The action here is incredible, and you immediately get a sense of what is happening here. It's instantly recognizable as well. I'm not sure which aspect of the build is my favorite, as everything you have built here is 100% pure awesome!! This is possibly your most spectacular build to date. For that you deserve a sweep. Score of 15. |
|
|
AMAZING! im lost for words because of how cool this is! However, i really feel for that monster.....truly a tragic end. It is not he who is the monster, but the people who wish to destroy him just because he's different. |

Y'know what? I'm not even going to enter. C'mon, I mean, It lights up! How can I possibly compete with THAT?!!?!?!?!?! The stairway is genius! Most DEFINITELY your best MOC yet!
Then I now send my message for Hans and Stu your way as well! GET BUILDING AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES! Hey, you wanna know something, it was your tiny jutty out bit in your Mummy moc that inspired that stairway... I looked at that and thought to myself "now why didn't I do that for around the outside of the well in 7 Days" so I took that tiny step and rolled with it and thus formed the spiralling staircase for the mob! Thanks dude! |

Hmmm, I think I need to stay in the Moc-Os mate, because that would give me a good excuse to not even try to compete against this! Love the mob and how you've stayed nicely within the 8x8 for the climb upwards - really draws the eye up through the various faces to the real star here. That windmill is gorgeous, especially the multicolured roof. And the lights show this off superbly. Great job, and good luck. |

This is great! The light effects were awesome! I wonder how you balanced it on an 8 by 8.
Its actually really stable. It doesn't even wobble during the up to 4.5 magnitude aftershocks we are still having from the earthquake we had here a month ago. The base with the rock work is completely solid therefore acts as a very heavy and sturdy plinth and the top is evenly balanced. It fell over once when my cat smooched it... but otherwise its very stable. |

I see many of us contestants went for the height factor.
Yes, I've noticed that too... there is only so much you can cram into a single layer 8x8. I'd love to be able to get an amazing result from something simple and small, like some contestants have managed to do very well, but often the most simplest ideas are the hardest to pull off. |
