The Dark One Rises
About this creation
My entry for Mr. Bones’ Halloween contest.
Round one: Spooky Halloween Vig: Build a Halloween vig that gives the viewer the creeps. NO gore or blood. Base must be 8x8, you may build an overhang beyond 8x8 higher up as long as the base remains 8x8.

The not needed but put here anyway link to the contest homepage

Here’s to hoping this creeps you out just a bit. Turn down the lights and ignore that noise outside your window. It’s only the wind after all…

Now then, on with the show…

And so it was written, that on the third unnatural full moon of All Hallows Eve, the third blood sacrifice of the innocent would call forth the Demon Lord.

And with this final act, his power shall be unleashed upon our plane.

Deep in the pit, the dark lord himself feasts on the cries of the innocent.

The screaming of the tortured is as a divine hymn to his ears.

And through their cries, he hears the enchantment spoken…

His faithful have spilled the blood of the innocent and called upon him.

And now, on this All Hallows eve, his most holy night, he shall rise.

He chooses his form, ghastly and grotesque and through the very gates made to usher the souls of the innocent to Heaven, his perversion is released unto the world.

May God have mercy upon us all.

Fourth Wall Commentary: (With behind the scenes shots)
Here’s to hoping I make it to round two. Some of the competition is AWESOME!

First shot, the sacrifice. This was actually where this whole thing started. I had this in mind with the demon bursting through the doors on top and the whole thing grew from there.

Next up, the stairs in Hell with the Demon overlooking his handy work. The souls of the victims being impaled was a nice touch don’tcha think? Oh, and his demon underlings were fun too. I came across a couple of those neon trans green heads and just had to include them!

Here’s the… I guess you’d call it “inner chamber” of the dark lord. You gotta look hard, but I think the interior of this with all the detailing came out nicely.

Here’s the “money shot” of the demon bursting out into the world. Creepy huh?

A shot of the entire vig from the top.

And then the entire build from the front. I was actually very pleased with how this turned out. The more that came to me, the more I kept adding. I gotta admit, it would have been a LOT easier to not have to make this on an 8x8 base, but it was a challenge building with that limitation. Of course I had to go one better and make the whole darn thing studless... I will never learn.

That’s all for now folks! And before any of you try to go off on me calling me “atheist” or anything like that, the category called for “creepy Halloween” and let’s be honest, there’s NOTHING creepier than the thought of a demon rising through human sacrifice on Halloween night…

Good luck to everyone else in the contest and Happy Halloween!

Till next time true believers!
~Chris.

This is the type of multiple action shots I do like to see. You're not moving anything, you've just built the various scenes....all on an 8X8 base....of course. And they're all built in a logical order. I would say that my favorite aspect would be the demon coming out of the gravestone. The sacrifice is pretty sweet too....LOL Score of 15. Good luck with the other judges!

My favorite part is definitely the diamond-esque chamber of the dark one-guy. Great job, especially with the red lighting and fire!

Yet another great entry! I love seeing all these "8 by 8" vigs milking that overhang rule :) The build is excellent, the lighting made it look awesome, 15 points!

Nice lighting effects! As one reviewer said below, the atmosphere and presentation made me forget this is a vig.

WOW! I think I just crapped my pants! Awesome and very creepy vig. I love the flames and the tentacled beast "rising forth". Very Lovecraftian as someone else mentioned. Well, thanks! Now I have to try and TOP this:)

This is really nice. I really think that the scenes really combine nicely. What I have found hardest about the 8X8 base is balance, but yours looks pretty symmetrical. Good luck!

Well that's a perect 15 from me mate. This is just nefariously righteous! You have an unsettling affinity for bringing the darkness to light. This is just pure Evil, dripping with malice, creepiness, and horror. A terrific piece of work, superbly detailed as always, but the presentation was memorable...

Quoting Drew the Skater Incredible, especially that the whole thing is on an 8x8 base! BTW, are you sure there's the AFOL brick hidden here?
Actually no, sorry. I forgot to mention that in the 4th wall write up. The AFOL brick is NOT in this build.
Quoting Tom Simon Now all you need is some scantily clad women anointing a Rimmer like fig and you are also well on your way to a Red Dwarf MOC. I believe it was Terrorform. And you don't even need to change to the red light bulb for this, because you already have it.
LOVED that episode! Lister is my hero by the way. And you're right, I wish I could have gotten better pics of the insides. I blame my daughter... little rugrat. hehehe
Quoting Waffles . I argue your point that NOTHING is more creepy than a Demon rising on Hallows Eve. The one thing more creepy than that is to have Bones show up on your doorstep a 2 a.m. holding his "mammoth tusk." =P Still, this closely rivals that scenario... ~Waff
You call that creepy, I call it "Saturday."

Awesome vig, and packed full of detail. At first, I though the inner chamber just used good ol' black blocks, but on closer inspection I saw all those slanted pieces, they make it bumpier and more rock-like, as if it has been carved out by hand with chisels or something. Very nice, the story rocks too. Good luck with the contest. :)

So let me get this straight: you went studless, but it came out studly. How does that work? Oh, I see, your laying some great building with lighting mastery on us. Yes, I do think the impaling is a fine touch. And you can't beat that writhing demon. If you want appreciation of the lair interior details, we'll need a better pic though. Now all you need is some scantily clad women anointing a Rimmer like fig and you are also well on your way to a Red Dwarf MOC. I believe it was Terrorform. WOW! that's better than I ever imagined!!! What a great image of the beastie busting through into our world, and love the fire effect down below. (and I'm not talking about that curry I ate last night) Each level is really well designed and made. And the steps with the impaled souls really is a nice touch! Good luck!
