About this creation

This is my spooky vig for the Beat the Judges contest, a side games to the MOC Olympics.

My challenger Mister Bones

The rules, build a spooky vignette. Vig must be on an 8x8 base, extensions are allowed providing they do not touch the ground.

From the haunting film: The Ring.

The child Samara is destined to spend all eternity in the well where she died.

She comes for you through your television screen.

In the film we find her remains still float in the well.

Its taken me three evenings to get the photos right to do justice to the unnerving cinematography of this film. Each evening I dismantled the two figures and scattered their parts amongst my collection... for fear if I leave them posed I will wake up to see Samara sitting on my pillow. Yes, that is how much this movie still haunts me.

Believe it or not the photos are actually in full colour, however the entire vig is built with shades of grey and black, to mimic the black and white of "the video".

Quoting Arthur Floren Or is it just the photos.....
Wow, good spotting! Yes indeed I used a trans black window screen (the skeleton of the TV is just a window lying on its side) I liked the look it gave the view inside the TV because it changed it from looking like the surrounding areas... and then I realised I needed to bring the fig through the screen... so it had to go.

Quoting Waffles . We get like 60 channels for free off the air.
Wow... that kind of chaos hasn't come to my little country yet! We only get a handful of free channels. My reception lets me get 4 clearly and one more that is temperamental and depends on the weather and how I hold my teeth as to whether or not I can actually see or hear it. I just watch movies and old TV shows on DVD. That way I control when the commercial breaks are.

That's not what I meant, I don't mind bunny ears, only a lot of people have switched over. I don't get satellite or cable either, I don't really watch TV that much. Instead of bunny ears, we have those flat antennas that get better reception. We get like 60 channels for free off the air.

Quoting Leda Kat My TV still has bunny ears.
Me, too! I ain't paying for cable or satellite. That's about $30 - $50 / month right there, money better spent with LEGO®. XD
EXACTLY!!! I have four free to air channels and I only ever watch two of them! So I'll never fork out that extra dosh for satellite when lego is so much more entertaining.

My question is how that platform is still stable. The TV screen is unrealistic, because everybody knows that TV's don't have bunny ears anymore! They have nothing... The technological advancement industry decided it wanted the bunnies ears cut off. They are such an evil industry... Anyway, I can't believe I was so late in commenting, I had it up, and then I had to go. I'm glad it isn't nighttime, I would be creeped out. Wait, who is that at the other end of the street? Man, whatever it is needs a haircut and makeover... =P ~Waff

Quoting Minifig Maniac Thanks. I think I'll go with black and white. It's actually going to be 2-3 parts. To many pictures. Do you think that would work?
This needs to be asked in the question thread of the group. I'm more than happy to help you with creativity style issues but I don't want to be responsible for you getting DQ'd because you didn't ask the judges. They know all the finer points of the rules. It would be my best guess though that you can only post one moc, not a 3 part story. If you think the story is too long and people might lose interest then cut it down a bit and post it as one whole moc/one whole story.
  September 24, 2010
Congratulations, my vote goes to you! Very spooky and great build concept!

Quoting Minifig Maniac I've just got to find the uploader. Do you think I should turn the pictures black and white? I should be posting it either today or this weekend.
Its up to you really on making them black and white. I haven't seen it so can't give you any insight other than to say only do what will either enhance or not distract from the build. If it looks better and works well with the story but doesn't distract from the moc itself, then by all means go black and white. Try both looks before you choose one and ask somebody else in your family to help you choose for an outsider's opinion.

Niiiiiceeeee Wahhahahahahaha, Creepy, I even scared myself then. I thought that was Mr Bones in the bottom of the well to start with, but he is still alive (I think that if you count a skeleton alive) and well. Great work and good luck.
  September 24, 2010
I've never seen the film and never will, but this was just too creepy. Way to put it to Bones! The tv screen is the master stroke, I believe, but the bottom of the well is what puts this over the top. Thanks for the nightmare I'll have tonight!

Quoting Spartan 301 Is the corpse at the bottom of the well you?
No. It is the corpse of the little girl whose evilness is climbing out of the well to... get you! Don't look!
Quoting Stuart Delahay Great Job mate. Ringu (not the remake, never ever the remake) was the last time I can remember a film actually shocking or scaring me. Just that moment of her crawling through the screen.....
I haven't been able to watch the original, I desperately want to because I have heard it is brilliant, but I have been told it is about 10 times scarier than the remake... and although I love scary stuff I absolutely cannot stand scary stuff. So, catch 22 really.
Quoting Parrington Levens Did you just see that? O.M.G. I think, the computer screen just moved! Leda, seriously, I think this Moc is coming alive - Arrghh, arrghh, switch it off before...
Hehe, indeed the modern day equivalent would be the computer screen not the TV. All you kiddies out there whose computer is their babysitter... GET OUTSIDE AND PLAY!!!
Quoting Heath 'kik36' Flor LMFAO! What a way to abuse the 8X8 with extension rule!! I LOVE it!!! You're a very clever lass....I must watch my back around you! :P This is magnificent!! I think you just beat the judge.
I would have put the bridge out longer because the well is a little too tight in the TV frame and I wanted more distance, but for the life of me I couldn't find that other trans panel. I know I've got 4 of em... Oh, and Bones needs a jolly good beating. Hope it hurt.

Great Job mate. Ringu (not the remake, never ever the remake) was the last time I can remember a film actually shocking or scaring me. Just that moment of her crawling through the screen..... I was looking at this wondering how it was going to be 8x8 for bones' challenge, then saw the trans overhang, THEN saw the full depth of the well and the body. Love the monochrome choice too (I considered doing similar for the MOC-Os but only had vader heads that were grey!) - it really suits well. Clever and cool. Good luck!
  September 23, 2010
