"De Accijnstoren", Bierkade 23, an old Dutch excise tower
Built in 1622, this tax office was responsible for a great share of the cities income. Every ship that wanted to enter Alkmaar had to pay excise. Fun fact: The tower was moved 4 metres towards the canal in 1924. This was necessary to widen the road.
About this creation
This is by far my favorite MOC. (I mean favorite finished MOC, because a cluster of three even better replicas are on their way!)
This is also the first MOC of mine to be exposed to the big bad outside world.
While I was photographing, some people were waving at me from a pub and putting their thumbs up, then a woman came up to me and told me all of the people inside really liked it. So with a smile on my face, I continued the photographing.

Here are some comparison pics, too bad it was raining. I could have waited, but I just had to post it today!
Pictures tell more than a thousand words, so I will shut up now for a while...

Here's a view at the side of the building with the little extension to the square building.

Another side view, I am not sure which side though...

When a minifig would stand in front of it... He would feel really small...

Another shot of the entire building, on my balcony. (This was actually pretty dangerous for my building, it could easily fall down).

The sturdy tower during a stormy day.

With some buildings in my neighbourhood next to it... It looks as if the tower flies...

The roof can be detached, pretty much like a modular building. And also necessary for transport...

The city arms of Alkmaar. I didn't know the actual interior, and I liked this one, so I kept it this way.

"Accijnstoren" Full assembly. From left to right: Roof (Clock tower), Interior, Tower base.

One of the tax assistants working at his PC, even though it's an old building, technology is welcome here.

All of the letters to the office which haven't been read yet.

The automated mechanism which controls the bell tower. In the real tower, (I found out later), the old clockwork from the 17th century is still working.

The interior in the palm of my hand. A vignette with some serious overhang...

Top view of the interior, the black tile is the stairwell.

Top view of the interior and the roof, just because it was possible...

This is one of the best views of my city, the "Accijnstoren", "Carré" and the "Station Square" .

A view towards my "Museum of Plastical History" . According to the smilies, my second best creation...

This must be a really heavy package! I wonder what's in it...

This was the first time I really visited something I was going to build, then study it, and then buying the specific parts. With "De Leeuwenburg" , I just made the front from 1 picture I made...
This was it for today, hope you liked it. If you did, please comment...

Erg mooi gedaan man, Erg goed gekeken naar de werkelijkheid. En past erg mooi in het geheel. BTW hoeveel accijns zit er op de bierkade? ;-) torenhoog denk ik .....

Quoting Sebeus I my only advice would be to use a combination of small brown, dark red and dark grey bricks to have a better color match, but I suppose you don't have enough of those bricks, why, I don't have enough either :p
That's something I will bear in mind, maybe I will rebuild it when I have enough of these colours. Anyway, thanks for your comment and your suggestion. Greets, Jelle Er is inderdaad een bierkade, er was vroeger een brouwerij, maar het is huisnummer 23, niet de 23ste kade, zo groot is Alkmaar ook weer niet xD

Very nice, those pictures with the real thing in the background are very cool, it's a fine replica, my only advice would be to use a combination of small brown, dark red and dark grey bricks to have a better color match, but I suppose you don't have enough of those bricks, why, I don't have enough either :p
