ATQ-M3 'Mantis'
About this creation
ATQ-M3 ‘Mantis’ Assault Platform™

Lore: Lore: The ATQ-M3 (All Terrain Quadruped) is one of the most unique vehicles deployed by the PALADIN Unified Ground Command; unlike most of the ambulatory bipeds or ‘walkers’ the Mantis moves on four independent self adjusting legs. This form of movement is far more stable than bipeds, however the speed and stride is greatly affected. The Mantis is operated by a single ‘handler’ or pilot; this individual sits (quite tightly) in the control harness at the center of the command pod, the handler is in direct control of movement, weapons, communications and diagnostics. All of these responsibilities require months of specialized training, and the handler must integrate himself with the onboard computer, and become familiar, and comfortable with forming a ‘cerebral wet link’ with the automated control unit that monitors vital information and controls the traction and cooperative movement of all four legs. The handler views through an integrated screen that displays a 180 degree view, and can display in infrared and night vision. The units vital information and HUD is displayed directly onto the handlers visor, and can be customized for individual preferences.

The Mantis is armed with four MazCas P-66 plasma discharge cannons, these weapons fire a bolt of superheated plasma that emits from the barrel of the weapon at high velocities and impacts a target with intense force and energy, and will continue to corrode most substances for several minutes until the plasma exhausts its own energy and cools creating a hard slag of melted armor and cooled plasma. The discharge barrels are maintained by an integrated cooling system, and the cannons must have a ‘cool down cycle’ before firing again, for this reason most handlers fire the plasma weapons one at a time cycling through each cannon, though they can be linked to fire two or four at a time. A central magazine of semi solid plasma supplies each cannon and an average of 800 shots can be fired before the unit requires a magazine tank change. The ATQ-M3 utilizes a flexible and rugged, but also light FiberSteel armor; this provides the walker with protection from most small arms, smaller caliber anti-armor rounds, and indirect explosions. This unit is generally deployed in conjunction with heavier armored vehicles and provides support; it is also commonly deployed in mountainous and urban environments where its flexibility, size and speed allow it to perform as an excellent infantry support vehicle.

You've been in my favorite builders area for a while and I've just started really noticing how good your stuff is when you guys started doing that awesome photography, you should make a tutorial on how you do it. I have good creations and a good camera but people don't notice my stuff because the pictures are crappy.

Quoting Brandon Mathis Very SNOTty... Very Good Job... VERY nice job. It reminds me of the crab droid from Star Wars. I especially love the Dawn Forge theme"ish" In fact, if someone could tell me what Dawn Forge is, that'd be great. I just know it has to do with legos, and Dark Grey"ish" Bley"ish" Light Grey/Bley... I've learned a lot of lego terms and such over a week of MOCpages xD. And in the last picture.... What set did you get the armor chest plate for the guy on the left? It looks crazy epic, and I could use it D:!
Thanks man, not trying to build to anyones theme but our own. The body armor is from the old Hockey line. I got it from a guy on bricklink who has them with no decals or printing on them, then we added some stickers.

Reminds me of that large walking tank near the end of the first Ghost in the Shell movie. Awesome MOC.

Hey guys this is a really sweet MOC. It is well detailed and well balanced. The water effect works very well. You don't show any pictures with the hatch open! Otherwise great pictures and graphics. Regards, Eric.

Quoting Andrew Somers Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! Awesome editing as well. Did you splash a little water on it in the title picture? If so, that's just epic.
Hah, thanks man, yeah we misted it with water, turned out pretty good too.

No it's minifig scale, a fig fits snuggly in the turret, it's designed to be a compact high mobility infantry support mech.
