In the not so distant future, wars will no longer exist. But there will be Mech Racing
About this creation

Here's q quick look at the alternate Main Picture, along with the necessary links to Joshua Christenson's Page and the 2010 MocOlympics That title's a mouthfull....

My category was "Mech Racing", and I'm not going to lie, I did a little happy-dance when I read that off the page. All the mech racers I'd ever seen were like these, made off of this. I wanted to do something different, something original, though maybe not so crazy as a Bologna Research Institute (yet). Then I remembered the Baja 1000. For those of you unfamiliar with this race, it's a 1000 mile cross-country rally across a harsh, desert landscape.

The racer featured in the diorama is #4, Selena Kescenovitz, in her racer Bley Thunder.

The Baja is an event geared for people from all walks of life. They have beer, greasy food stands, and scantily clad women.... Everyone here has a good time:

Excited children....

Middle-Eastern drug lords....

Even arachnaphobics!

Though admittedly some hippies have an issue with the rally being run right through the habitat of the endangered shrub dragon.

Gambling and betting on the games is technically illegal, but officials are willing to turn a blind eye towards the black-market goings-on for the right price.

After the end of a grueling day, an Action 9 News crew hooks up with Selena for a quick interview.
Peter Johnson - "Selena, while we have some time left, what did it take for a nice girl like you to get involved in mech racing?"

Selena K - "Well Peter, my great grandfather always said that women made the best mech pilots in science fiction. Now that the technology has become available in sporting events I guess it just seemed like I should prove that to the rest of the real world."

Peter Johnson - "One last question. What would it take to get a nice girl like you into my hotel room tonight?"

Selena K - "10% more than Ribbits is paying me, and I doubt you reporters make that much in a year. Ta ta!"

And now back to the comedy stylings of John Moffatt!
Here's a couple more close up shots of bits. My apologies regarding the varying quality of the photos, as I'm still trying to learn the ins and outs of our new camera

Top Bit

Butt shot of the reactor exhaust

Crotch Shot

I think this last shot is one of the best I've ever taken.
Something I would have liked to add to the interview but didn't fit in:
SK - "You should see when it gets up to 88 Miles per Hour!"
PJ - "You mean this thing can time travel!?
SK - "No, it just looks cool"
ps. Whoever knows what the modified quote in the introduction is originally from, you get an imaginary cookie.
Anyway, best of luck Josh. If this is it for me, thanks for all your hard work judges and organizers, it's been fun.

U know ribbets, Mr. President? woah. So let me get this straight. Shrub dragons are going extinct... why? if they're DRAGONS couldn't they fly away to another, non-racing area? Besides. If war was no more, there would be no need for hippies... |

it'd be a nice C.O.P. runner.
Trust me, there's a light grey and red version coming once I get the time |

I'm amazed at how thin that thing is. I would have given up long ago. If it doesn't survive the drop test, I wind up hating it. If that was light bley, it'd be a nice C.O.P. runner. /inspiration 4/5! |

Well, I don't see your competitor's entry. So it would look like you have the win. This is truly a beautiful build - very well done. Lee.
Thanks a lot, I just wish it had something to compete against |

Noice one! That mech is beautiful. Once I've got the pilot out of the way, I should be able to safely get it to International Waters, where I can't be prosecuted... |

I had some concern for Josh when he drew you and this is why. Still, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Excellent entry and I can't wait to see what Josh brings. Good luck!~H |

Nice job on the story (you fit quite a few funny details in there) and also on the build and pictures. Your variation on the racing mechs looks great. I also got a kick out of those pictures with the arachnaphobic during the interview. |

The fact that you can spell Kescenovitz should get you extra points. Pretty cool MOC + hilarious writeup!
If I can't build as good as Kescenovitz, I can at least spell as well.
