Moc Olympics Round 2 Group 1D Mike Johnson vs. Nicks Bricks
Category "Classic Micro Castle" Welcome to Bley Castle. This small fortress was constructed to defend the border of Legodonia from invading hordes of marauding barbarians. This castle may not make the cover of "Better Moats and Courtyards" but it’s more than capable of repelling the enemy with its defensive siege weapons and thick stone walls.
About this creation

A ballista has been mounted on top of each tower along the outer battlements. This includes one on top of the barbican. Thanks to these powerful weapons enemy forces suffer heavy casualties long before reaching the castle’s battlements.

Hidden in the courtyard, two powerful catapults’s rain down human sized boulders crushing siege towers and hapless soldiers alike.

The drawbridge opens and closes with the use of a manually operated winch.

Here the drawbridge is halfway open. Instead of being traditionally raised and lowered like most drawbridges, this one is raised from the bottom.

Once the drawbridge is fully raised, only the rope holds it in place. If cut, the weight of the drawbridge causes it to fall shut. Anyone caught beneath it would instantly be squished into a bloody pulp.

To keep their weapons and armor in peak condition a blacksmith shop was built next to the great hall. The well was also dug here as a matter of convenience.

Stables for the horses were located on the other side of the great hall.

The donjon and great hall is where the soldiers dine, rest and prepare for battle. On top of the great hall one of the two knights (the one with the green cape) oversees the daily duties while the other inspects the courtyard.

Last but not least are the links as decreed by our judging overlords!

Sorry I didn't meet you while you were still here. Like the castle though. Good luck with whatever you take up.

Quoting Berial . Hey man,I just read your reply to my comment in this moc of yours, and I'm sorry to hear that you lost. But I must say, stop joining contests won't help you in nothing.I mean,if you had that thought before of the contest, and never participated of it,you would never have built such a wonderful moc like this one.As they say,I think that sometimes the important thing is really to participate, and not just to win.
To be honest, I'm not so delusional (at least while I'm on my meds, chuckle-bad joke) to ever think I was going to win the whole thing. I was just hoping to make it to at least to the semi's. At least now I know how Hasslehoff feels after getting bounced out of "Dancing w.t. Stars" in the first round. Oh well, time for LEGO's and hard liquor (bad joke #2, actually I don't drink)! On the lighter side I have been working on a new project for the last several weeks. With luck I should have it up in a couple of weeks.

Quoting Mike Johnson Your designs never cease to amaze me! The bulkiness and color combo work great together. I still haven't figured out how the heck I'm ever going to build one of these monsters but at least I can always view one of yours for inspiration. As far as the lost description goes, I've had that happen a few times too. What I do now is that I type out all of my descriptions as a document first and then copy and paste here. That way if I lose it, I still have the original saved some where else.
That's a nice ideia, thanks! And man,I think you have the potential to make some great builds, and I believe that within time you will improve your builds just as I did.If it's of any help,I am building another moc with Thermyndor's skeleton(an even cooler one,if may I say so),and if you want I can put some of his skeleton pics on the page so you can get some ideas from it.Reply back on one of my mocs page if that's of your interest.

Quoting Marc "Edge" R.unde Don´t take it too seriously, I would never have come farther than round one. My parts supply is simply still too small. And buying parts on demand for the Olympics wouldn´t be fast enough. Still, I like your castle here. Quite utilitarian, but very clean built!
Yeah, yeah I know. I'm already over it. In fact I'm in the the process of building a new MOC and may even challenge one of the judges with just to see what happens! Unfortunately at the rate I'm going the whole MocOlympics might be over first! Either way I think it'll be a good one no matter what anyone might say. We'll see.

Quoting Parrington Levens Don't even consider the votes dude, it's pot luck half the time in terms interpretation. I only just beat Cody cos I didn't quite stick to pure classisism, as I figured the topic allowed that when reading between the lines. Had Cody done what I did, he'd of likely blown me me out of the water! Like I say, luck. Your build is great, your opponent did exactly what I did in Rnd1 and the judges went with it. If you had put in some interior sets with mini-figs with yours, it would have come alot closer. You have to remember these categories are more about what you can get away with adding in terms of overkill, and less about following the exact rule of law as spelled out by there one line descriptors. Don't forget, according to Yuri, you have the best GAIA fighter ever built to your name! Hehe, catch you at the next tourny...
I appreciate the fact you're trying to boost my morale and I even get what you're saying about the "rules" of the contest. All that being said contests like these are still popularity contests at the core and I'm just not that popular as a whole. Even my so called best GAIA fighter has already been forgotten by the masses. Like I said earlier, the whole reason why I risked entering the MocOlympics was to increase my standing around here and prove that I'm not just another schmuck. Wrong again. A schmuck be still I and In the realm of schmuckdom I remain! Chaw on that one for a while for s&!#s and giggles!

Quoting Berial . Great microscale castle Mike,I love it!
Thanks for the nod of approval but I'm afraid it's official. All three of my judges voted for my opponent. I'm not too surprised but that doesn't make it any easier to swallow such a bitter pill. This is why I cringe at entering contests. Falling short time after time gets discouraging to the point where I wonder if I should even try at all? Oh well, all I can say is "what will be, will be."

Quoting Parrington Levens ohhh, yeh, your opponent went nanno scale. It's always hard to choose between a micro and nano scale model, cos the nano always had that landscape to back it up. I reckon you will get one of the two remaining votes for sure as someone is going to like the micro more, it's just gonna be a question of whether you can tip over a second vote. This one seems as close as mine was, good luck!
Thanks for the vote of confidence. If you were one of the judges I might have a shot. On second thought, you'd probably take me out just to eliminate the competition! Hahaha, kidding. We'll know soon enough.

Quoting Crimso Giger Glad I came here, you've got a very cool bunch of creations ! I'm agreed with what Parrington said (as usual lol) It reminds me my favorite Lego castle, the 6980, for the elegant shape ! Thanks for the idea you've give me in your comment, really interesting :-)
Your welcome. It would be interesting to see what you come up with next. As far as the castle goes, most of the old grey parts came my only castle set that I got back in the 80's. It might even be the one you mentioned because honestly I don't remember that far back anymore!

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback and comments. I sensed a basic castle wouldn't be enough by itself. I just hope the judges like it as much as well. The ballista and catapults are my favorites too. The reverse opening drawbridge also came out better that I expected. Now we will have to wait and see what happens.

There is something very pleasing and nostalgic about this one. Reminiscent of thos old Vitawheat promotion catles etc. I really like this, esp the details like the catapult etc... Nice entry Mike, that's what makes this contest great, seeing builders do stuff they wouldn't normally do.

Amazing micro castle! Lots of nifty details. I particularly like the ballista. Also, you'll need to mention in the writeup what category you are building in and put a link of this MOC in the appropriate entry thread. XD
