I really like the look of this, but you're definitely going to have problems with the legs. For the hips, I would replace the trans-blue round 1x1s with a round 2x2 brick, make the hip section 4 studs wide, put an extra headlight in each side, and use a separate bar for each leg. As cool as they look, you're probably going to have to completely redesign the knee joints. The ankles might hold if you can balance it right, but it certainly isn't going to stand like you show it - it's very front heavy in that stance. Also, you don't have the hinge plates in the shoulders in a 'locked' position, though it looks like there's enough room to put them at 22.5 degrees.
I'm affraid you're right, I've maid a test with quite similar built and it didn't worked, I think I'll have to find a better solution, your's sounds good, I'll try with the round 2x2 brick or perhaps another one with technic parts, but for the moment I'm still waiting for the required bricks...
