USRG Support 4x4 Truck
It really isn't fair that the USRG can't have any awesome names for their vehicles. HCF, I'm onto you! Well, Starmark has so many of these things that I decided that the USRG had better pick up the pace. Now, granted, they won't be anywhere near as good as Andrew's, but watch it man, I'm learning...
About this creation
Well, I wanted to go for a Warthog-type felling vehicle without copying too much off of that or Andrew Somer's "Wolf" 4x4. I think I can safely say that I managed that, don't you? Say "yes," boys and girls. I'm not so sure about the roll cage, so if you have any helpful hints or constructive criticism, all is welcome. Especially Matt's and Andrew's. Now, on to the MOC...

I'm gonna call this the Cobra just because I like that name so much more than "Support Truck." Starmark gets to have all of the fun...

Side profile. Wait a sec, that's redundant, isn't it? Oh well. I really like how the sides turned out. They make it feel like a Warthog without looking like one.

This is the gunner's seat. Yet another feature I borrowed from the 'Hog. In fact, let's make this easy on ourselves and say that all of this baby's specs are the same as the Warthog's. I've had my original time today.

Here's the Cobra heading at you dead on. Emphasis on "dead." LOTS of emphasis. It may not have tusks, but those of you that play any Halo MP know that being hit by ANY fast-moving vehicle is a guaranteed long hospital stay. See "Matt David Goes to the Hospital."

Yes, also like the 'Hog, the Cobra has a forward winch system. No, Chris, not "wench," winch. Go back to whatever sad activity you were doing. Actually, I got this idea from Andrew, not from Halo.

See? In an unconventional building style, too!

And, of course, the rear chaingun. The barrel design is actually Andrew's.

Here's a close-up.

And a pic without the figs...

I would have given credit to Andrew for this style of seating, except I have been using it in my MOC's since before I signed up, and I think it's okay for me to claim originality for this. Not that I came up with it first, just that I came up with it on my own.

The following two images are here to demonstrate the Cobra's suspension. Duh, yeah, it has suspension! You just wait until I combine that with quad-ster, and then you won't be laughing so hard! BTW, Andrew, how do you demonstrate yours? Do you remove one of the rubber bands so it doesn't pop back up? I had to push it down, obviously...

Here's how it's done.

"What if you're in the Oval Office?" Commentary: Did you guys notice that box down at the bottom of the "Add a LEGO Creation" page that says, "Mature content (18+)?" I hope no one checks that one off... Anyway, I'd just like to say thanks to Andrew Somers for being Andrew Somers. He was the very first guy I met on the 'Pages, and he was a Mod in the second group I ever joined. He's been a real inspiration for me, and I've learned so much from him. So, Andrew, even if you beat me in the Olympics. Even if you become Mr. Super-Popular and never look at my MOCs again (actually, folks, Andrew has commented on at least 80% of all of my MOCs to this point), and I say this sincerely, keep on brickin', and thanks.

Nice 4x4. I like how it feels like a warthog but isn't a warthog.

It's good, but you can tell you borrowed too many things from the Warthog. Also it looks a bit like you tried to cram too much detail into one model. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's my view of it. Better luck next time!

I like it! our group has been neglected lately :( but for a meaner front end I give it a slight tilt up or down so it isn't just a straight line

I say, quite good. The cage may be a bit bulky, but when I realized how small the whole model is, it seems insignificant, as its tough to keep a model in that scale. The suspension looks good, as well. Good job!

Do I spy old grey? Yes, I do. I like it. It's bold. Dangerous. Explosive. And yes, I can't believe that Dr. Jones convinced Sean Kenney to put that Mature content checkbox there. =P That is just too funny. Only problem is, all the little yfols are going to think it is funny to make their moc "Mature Content" and now every single moc will be checked that. Except for those of us we know well. Excellent truck, I just can't build those things. ~Waff

Quoting High Commander Falcon This thing is amazing! The USRG has been neglected lately, even by its owner and creator. And yes we are lame and have no names for our vehicles, but that is not entirely true. They have vehicle type names and numbers. But then they get nicknames from the troops, like you named it Cobra, any troop trend could name something Old Bessy! LOL But they dont have names because there was suppose to be SO many vehicles of all types that serve in different areas of the universe, but we havent got that far yet. I need to get back to building, but I dont have the time RAR!!
No excuses! Just get back in the game! And I'm just messin' with you about the names. In fact, I think they're slightly overrated. I mean, if I really liked naming my MOCs, I would just defect to Starmark, wouldn't I? Hmmm, there's an idea...

Awww... You made me blush. you really need to get a Flickr so I can comment on individual aspects of your builds. What I can tell you however, are several tips for a tougher truck. 1: Wider. Though the wheels of this truck span 8 studs, the body is at most six towards the middle. I'd recommend a body that is 6 or 8 studs wide to cover most of the wheels. The back is a bit too plain and simple. If you need inspiration, feel free to look at my trucks. 2: The rollcage is meh, in my opinion. I don't quite think it works. Use some windsheilds for that task. 3: Onorthodox connections (In reference to the winch) are good. However, the front looks too much like the fronts of the cars that the Lego Company makes. Experiment with diferent designs to give your truck a meaner front end. 4: Doors, perhaps? A single volley of bullets to either side wouldn't be great for the health of the occupants. 5: Where suspension is concerned, you want to have enough weight on the vehicle so that you don't have to push down on it in order to display its' capabilities. In my pictures, I put something underneath the back left wheel, and underneath the front right wheel to show how effective the system is. that works because the weight of the parts on the vehicle is enough to push down on the suspension by itself. 6. That should be it for now...
