The summer assignment for grad school this fall is a brief introductory movie. My choice: a Rube Goldberg machine.
Total build time: 7 hours
Duration of machine: 10 seconds
Number of brown 1x1 bricks used: all of them
Number of times machine was activated by me bumping the table: 4
Push the red button and it releases this ball...
...which rolls into this bucket...
...and is then poured out onto this thing, which rolls down the track...
...and trips this wire...
...which pulls out the plank blocking this guy's dynamite cart...
...which rolls down and pushes back these signs...
...and then knocks loose this peg...
...which tilts this trough and sends this yellow ball rolling...
...down these troughs...
...before landing in this dish, pulling it down...
...raising this gate, releasing the Union guy's cart, which rolls down the track...
...hitting this grey square...
...which pushes this telephone pole...
...into these domino gravestones...
...which tips over this wooden weight, pulling down on this chain...
No kidding - I was thinking about making one of these just the other day. Now that I've seen yours, I'm glad I didn't! Yours was much better than anything I would have made.
Incredible. I used to build a Rube Goldberg machine with my mom every Christmas vacation. I love the efficiency of this one, and the creativity is astounding. If I wasn't leaving for college in a couple days, I would have really liked to attempt one of these. Maybe this winter break... Anyway, thank you for your continued inspiration. -Sam
Well done, this is one of the most brilliantly original thins I've seen done out of Lego in, well, forever! The entire set up is sheer brilliance, keep bricking for sure!
Wow. That is like the best thing in the wourld!!!!! I need something more effective than Exclamation points to put justice to the loudness and excitment in that sentence!!! Maybe Dynamite! And Pigs!!!
Coolest creation ever. I love the concept of a Rube Goldberg machine, and you executed it perfectly, although I will admit it is a little fast.
Good day
Well done Alex, I have been playing with a marble version of this with my eldest son which is cool enough, but to see a LEGO version is a real nice effort. It really does seem like a lot of work for 10 seconds, but its Western mine carts and tombstone dominos, whats not to like?
