First in a series of all of the Smithsonian Buildings, this is my first attempt at building it. This was built and screen-captured from Bricksmith on OS X using a slightly extended LDraw library. When I get some proper renderings done, I'll upload them.
About this creation
This is the back of the building, or front, depending on your point of view. Eventually once I build this for real, I'll put it on green baseplates with some proper landscaping of trees and stuff. Actually, I guess I'll need to figure out what to do about the parking lot. Yeah, there's a parking lot next to the building. :)
A side view showing the various heights of the rooftop elements. This is as close to reality that I could get.
Can you figure out how I did the windows? The interior of this building is quite interesting. :)
I'm not sure what you mean by the offset for the roof. Initially I'd thought about using a 1x2 plate with one centered stud on top to center things on the roof, but I found it was not necessary at this scale.
Quoting Blake Baer
Wow Joel that is really well done. The design of this is very detailed. I love the window idea. Is that a half stud or whole stud offset for the roof?
The "concern" about the parking lot is that I plan to do the entire National Mall at some point. There are two tunnels -under- the mall and the NMHM is actually built on a slight hill!
Quoting The Brick Scho
Don't worry about the parking lot. It's a waste of black/grey tiles. Concentrate on the building itself. You can check out my other buildings on Flickr under The Brick Scho. Keep creating!! ;-)
