RM - MOC Olympics R1 - 'Beyond Midnight'
My entry for Round 1 of the MOC Olympics, but you could have guessed that from the title. I call it 'Get to Da Choppa'.
About this creation
MOC OLYMPICS MAIN PAGE

Now, I know what you're thinking right now. 'Hey man, how does this meet your category? It looks like regular old Post-Apoc'. Well, I'll tell you my good man/woman/tentacled horror from another dimension: Multiple definitions. My category is 'Beyond Midnight', and the word 'Midnight' has several meanings. One of them being any period of time after 12:00 a.m., or midnight as we call it. However, another definition that is almost archaic at this point in time is referring to the doomsday clock. You see, back in the 50's those of us who live in America were VERY close to war with the people who lived in the Soviet Union. Now, when the Doomsday Clocks struck twelve, that would mean our two countries would be in all out nuclear war. A scenario that could very well cause the apocalypse, as the radioactive fallout would make many, many things very, very dead. Now, if we have an apocalyptic situation, in which many things are very, very dead, does a period of time such as this become beyond the apocalypse, or 'Post-Apoc' as you said earlier? Yes. Yes it does. Therefore, I have interpreted the category to be beyond a Midnight scenario. And now, I present you with the build!

Here we have a momentous occasion before us: The 'clan' of survivors and refugees have finally completed their flying machine! With designs taken from an old engineer who settled in years ago, they have constructed the first vehicle to roam the skies since the War!

The guards remain indifferent at the moment, as years of patrolling the barbed wire has left them bored and cynical. They really just want to see something explode. God knows THEY haven't seen any action since the bombs fell...

Here we see our chipper young pilot Randolph, who was recently promoted from Janitor, First Class. He's been given a crash course (Hopefully this won't be literal...) in the chopper's operation, and eagerly awaits the go signal from the tower.

Here we have another shot of our pilot. Randolph hasn't ever been apart of anything as important as this, so you can imagine how excited he is.

Speaking of the flight controller, here he is now. All his life Dale hasn't had to do anything, and how he is required to do a very specific something. Fate sucks, doesn't it?
However, all he has to do is give thumbs up sometime before noon. For him, it is a herculean task.

Trooper Wilkins here has been moved to Radio Duty after an incident invloving two cows, a tarp, two planks of wood, a foot of rope, twelve egss, and one standard issue looting sack. All those involved aren't allowed to speak of it.

Like any good Post-Apoc settlement, this clan has decided that no gift horse should be taken in for dental exams. With the discovery of working generators, they promptly put it aside for further use. This is that further use, powering a radio at a proto-air field. In other news, a good many horses had to be put down after all their teeth fell out.

Here we have the usual suspects: A chucktainer, a pair of crates, a barrel, and a bronze cylinder. Clearly I need better suspects, as I doubt any of these were capable of the murder of Mrs. Robinson.

Because my helicopter is non-standard, it is unable to run off of human suffering, dust clouds, wreckage, dismembered tentacles from an eldritch abomination, or electricity. This means there needs to be a large silo full of liquid fuel somewhere. This is that silo. Actually, now that I think about it it COULD be modified to run off the broken dreams of small children... That wouldn't get you very far though, as most small children have already been eaten by the tentacled Eldritch Abomination.

Here we have the entire scene, sans helicopter. Get it? 'Sans' helicopter? It's a really sandy air field, and 'sans' means without? Oh, I'm hilarious!

Where did the helicopter go? Why, it came here! We're going to spend the next couple pics ogling it like it's a Where's Waldo page and Waldo has gone on vacation without notice. To start, enjoy your standard 3/4 view!

We'll move back to a front view for just a moment, and move right along!

Here we have the side profile, which you haven't really gotten a good look at yet.

Here we have the tail section. The reason a large part has been removed is because this actually allows the chopper to go further and fly faster because of its reduced weight. Isn't science fun?

This is a particularly interesting feature, as air foil technology was thought to be lost, much like that of the flying machine itself.

Note how slim the chopper is: This allows not only for easy storage, but mass production, should that power ever be regained.

This side profile is slightly better: Gaze upon it's wondrous glory!

Here we have an overview of the chopper. Note the proper proportions of a helicopter: The tail is very long, and the body is rather small. The main propellers are balanced out by the air foil in the rear. This could possibly work if you were to build it IRL.

And, since you've all been so patient, I give you this parting shot: We have liftoff!

And that's all folks! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you've enjoyed my entry.

By the way, there's an extra little bonus bit for my category: This was posted at 2:00 a.m, which is most certainly beyond midnight.

Thanks guys! @Yuri: Trust me, I don't plan on wasting it! I can definitely see how you'd be angry. It was an incredibly stupid mistake on my part.

Quoting Chris Phipson Score of 7. Welcome back. Looks like you're the only DQ taking advantage of it so far. We'll see what happens. ~ Chris.
Thanks Chris! I'm honestly surprised no one else has done it yet (Except ISC, but he's no longer competing). I think all the discussion may have scared them off at first... I really hope there'll be some more before the end.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Yeah, you might want to get a hold of one of these for the 1st side-event. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=3626bp04 or something as close as you can.
I've got the full set of parts. Bring it on!

@Mister Bones; Yeah. Oh well, I'll just have to post at normal hours next year. That might help... @Matt: The Chopper was actually the reason the diorama got built, plus I'm in the process of enlarging it at the moment. You could still get the sky sharks angle to work out, providing you gave them a new form of transportation. Like a plane, or something. @Shifu: Glad you enjoyed it! I'll be back next year though. Plus there's always the side games!

Ouch! Sorry about the DQ. This MOC would have easily garnered top points! Oh well. Well-built though and the usual humorous commentary!

Wow. Heartbreaker, Ribbits. You'd have made it far, kid. That little chopper's worth the whole MOC, in my opinion. :-( BTW, I was contemplating using Skysharks as anti-zombie units for my zombie-apocolypse entry, but I decided it'd be unoriginal

Quoting Chris Phipson Wow... that is really, REALLY too bad. You would have gotten a 7 or 8 from me. Sorry man. Have fun in the side games! ~ Chris.
Yeah. I screwed up though, so there's really nothing more to say about it. Although knowing a prospective score is nice. I really appreciate some return for the effort!

Well, now that I've finished drowning my sorrows in Terry Pratchett novels, thanks to everyone who commented! I'm going to proceed to lump all of you together into categories now: @Everyone who liked my interpretation of the theme: I got the original idea from Watchmen, and then finally decided on it after a trip to Urban Dictionary. @Everyone who loved the MOC as a whole: Many thanks! I really enjoyed this one. I guess it took the MOC Olympics to get me to build Post-Apoc though... @Cody: I find Tentacled Horrors are an underrepresented minority as a whole. I mean, people always worry about 'Minority Here', but never the Tentacled horrors. It's a shame, really. @Sergeant Nico: You can buy an AK from Brickarms, but there is no AK present in this MOC. There's a shotgun and a pulse rifle from the movie Aliens though.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Great MOC. You are a great builder and I really hoped to see you perform in the next rounds (even if your entry was stretching the theme to its limit). Still, the rule stands: no link, no party. See you next year.
... Oh wow... That really sucks... I really thought I'd been careful about that kind of thing... Well, I guess I'll see you all next year!
