Round 3 of Waffle's Contest for Best....?
About this creation
Question: if you produce a film, what would it be about and how would you film it?
First off, I'm a big fan of stop-motion. It's a special method of filming, that allows you to bring just everything to life, like toys, action figures. dolls, your socks and of course Lego! You simply take a photo of your object (e.g. a minifig) and move it with every next step a little (e.g. its legs to make it walk). After this procedure a stop-motion software will make a film out of all the photos.
All you need is some creativity and little setup, including a little scene, a very good camera with macro and probably the most important thing, the lighting: It's better to the filming at night or in a dark room. Otherwise you will get a different lighting in every scene (caused by the sun). Lamps do the same job and don't move.
There is no limit of ideas! Using Stop-motion you won't need much money to get special effects. Actually the old films, like King Kong from 1933, used stop-motion to bring their creatures alive.
It takes at least 15 photos per second to get smooth movements and therefore a lot of patience as well. That's the reason, why I'd probably need a huge team to organize all required stuff. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a good example, what you can achieve with this method.
Another thing I love is old sci-fi movies.I find it impressive when those huge spaceships float across the screen. So, if I made a sci-fi movie, I wouldn't use any cgi for spaceships or other vehicles. IMO it looks much more authentic and realistic to use actual models filmed with stop-motion.
The original SW movies were made with actual models and that's one of the reasons, why I like them much better than the new trilogy. Other good examples are Alien or 2001.
But to be honest, I wouldn't refuse to make a Dragonball movie, since I'm a big fan of the original books from the 80s by Akira Toriyama. Everything after that like Dragonball Z is cr@p, though (IMO)
So, that's how I would make a film :)

Nice little build here, that house is awesome. I'm of a mind to do a stop motion video. Now for the judging. For creativity, I award you a score of 9 out of ten. This was because I didn't expect stop motion to be your choice, and I liked it. For quality, I give you an 8 out of ten. There were some nice little creations in there, but I would have liked a little more to the build. What really would have loaded you with points would have been to make an actual stop motion, but that would have taken a long time. Thank you for competing in the Contest For Best... It's been my pleasure to judge entries from great builders like you. Final score: 17 out of 20. ~Waff |

Go stop-motion! I also make those films but mine has less quality - 'bout 8 frames per second. |

Nice work. I agree with what you say. SW, Alien, 2001, they still look great. There has to be cinematography and directing to go with special effects. And that ship is really cool! |

This is great, but what's really ironic is that you didn't make a stop-motion film to go with this!
Yeah, I've tried my hands many many times at stop-motion and was never pleased with the result :) |
