Commercial Row
This moc features three separate buildings inspired by 19th Century architecture commonly seen in Australian cities and towns.
About this creation
Commercial Row is a collection of buildings whose individual identities marry well to create an interesting period setting typical of Australian cities. The type of buildings in this group became commonplace in Australia during the 1880's boom period. The economic climate of this time inspired local companies to build elaborate and finely decorated buildings to house themselves in as a celebration of their optimistic outlook for the future.

Theses buildings, as with many others in my collection, are intended as a scenic backdrop to a larger layout. Due to this, I do not invest any time or effort into detailing the interiors in any realistic way. The only interior detailing I am concerned with is what you can see through windows or doors.

The orange and yellow building pictured above and below is called West's Coffee Palace and is one of my favorite buildings. I think its best feature is the colour scheme which creates and interesting interplay between contrasting colours and provides a strong commercial presence in the surrounding street-scape. The building is a collection of three separate modular buildings that can be rearranged in various ways.

Above is my first deliberate experiment with SNOT tech facades.

This building is known as Barlow Chambers and unlike the other two, is not modular in design. Again, I think the colour scheme is its best feature and I especially like the green paneling around the window reveals and arches. The columns emphasize the asymmetrical plan while making apparent the location of the building’s main foyer.

Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Really well done, although a little too colourfull for me. Good thinking of the modular configruation of the orange-yellow building, and good use of collectable minifigs baseplate on teh snot fachade. -But I am really more interrested in the two cars showing in the black/white photo...
Hey Henrik, thanks for your comment. The two cars are from the LEGO kit Shanghai Chase (Indiana Jones). I agree, they look great in the B&W.

Wow... they look neat and old-fashioned. The photography is a little blurry, though.

Jonas, all three of these buildings are amazing by themselves. The Coffee building is my favorite. It has the best use of color and form. Regards, Eric.
