This is a 1964 Maxim S Series pumper. It has a 1000 gpm Hale pump and a 500 gallon water tank. It is powered by a six cylinder gasoline engine.
About this creation
In 1914 Carlton Maxim built his first fire apparatus for the Middleborough, Massachusetts, Fire Department, of which he was a member. The combination hose and chemical car was so successful that Maxim's fire apparatus soon were serving in departments throughout New England. Maxim went on to produce a full line of fire apparatus.
In 1956 Maxim was acquired by its rival the Seagrave Corporation but continued to operate as a separate division.
In 1960 Maxim introduced the S series. This short wheel based conventional cab apparatus was available in open and closed cabs. The S Series was used for pumpers, mid-mount aerial ladders and tillers.
In the mid-1970s the S Series was re-vamped. In the mid-80s the S Series was discontinued. A short time later, on December 15, 1989, Maxim stopped production and went out of business. BFD552@Gmail.com
Wow, this is another outstanding looking rig. It has that classic look that so many trucks from this period have. The bed area is very well detailed too. Regards, Eric.
The Maxims are some pretty cool and interesting rigs!!! When I was younger, I got the chance to ride in a 1972 yellow, open-cab Maxim(Not S-series though). All I can say is that it was pretty loud!!! The rig is still in service today!!! Keep up the fabulous work and history Lego Fire Museum!!!
really love this, mainly cos i love the old Maxims, i have a book i was given as a child which talks in great detail about some Maxim units and their ladders used on others.
thanks for the nostalgia moment.
Awesome looking truck. I think you captured the look of the Maxim perfectly. Also, the article on how the company was formed and it's history through the years is excellent. Great job on a classic New England style fire apparatus.
