This is a minifig-scale version of Mario Andretti's 1978 Formula One Championship winning Lotus 79.

About this creation

I'm a huge Formula One fan, and I love LEGO F1 models. Chris Hecker's 8-wide Ferrari 312T and 10-wide Lotus 79 inspired me to create an 8-wide, minifig-scale Lotus 79.

The Lotus 79 was one of the most dominant cars in Formula One history. Designed for the 1978 F1 season, the car made use of new ground effects technology that used tunnels on the car's underside to create downforce, in effect sucking the car onto the track.

In twenty-six starts, the Lotus 79 won seven Grands Prix, ten pole positions, and five fastest laps on the way to winning the Drivers' Championship for Mario Andretti and the Constructors' Championship for Team Lotus.

Unfortunately, I was limited to the wheel choices available in LEGO Digital Designer. Ideally, the car should have narrow front tires and very wide and tall tires in the back.

This is a nice build, which you could imagine Lego selling as a Creator kit. It really does look like the JPS/Lotus cars from when I was a kid. I also like the way that you've fitted the car into a racetrack background for the top photo.
