Tatra T813
8x8 four frontwheels are steered, driven and have suspension.
Rear four are driven and have suspension
All axles have a lockable differential.
Front and rear of truck has also a lockable differential.
Hand of god steering and working steeringwheel in the cabin works.
8 working cylinders.
Scale was far from correct, see below my first attempt for the bodywork. worked on that today. Also adjusted front suspension because the wheels dropped down too much when nopt touching the floor.
This is the first try, suspension of front wheels was not ideal, evenso for the steering, the wheels were not in line.
Bottom
Now the bodywork is bigger, which makes the scale much better in my opinion. I wanted to use army green bricks, but i don't think these exist. Do they?
Suspension at work, this was a hassle, figuring out which springs to use (black=really soft, grey=medium, yellow=hard) and positioning them in the right angle for all wheels to have the best pressure and not forcing bricks in the wrong way.

Steering module with two beams moving contrary of each other.
Red bricks underneath are the diff-locks (two). One for each axle in the front.

There are actually 5 diffs in the model since the 4 axles are divided into two groups of two axles each. These two groups have 1 differential inbetween. (long model, turning, different speeds in model)
The two front axles are steered, you could easily clone the front steering mechanism to make the rear steer too. The only thing is that THAT sort of feature is not used much in real life trucks. maybe because the payload rests mostly on the back two axles and non-steering axles are stronger. (less parts, less clearance and thus less wear).
It certainly is NOT necessary for a nice functioning model. It even might be unwanted.

hi ivor kreuger.Thank u so much for your reply,as a beginner,I still have some questions.how many differentials are there in the truck?I can see 4 in the bottom view,and there seems to be more.I guess the purpose of the additional diffs is to make the 4 axles be able to rotate at different speed,is that right?and is each differential lockable?your truck is 4 wheels steered,is it possible/necessary to have all wheels steered?I appreciate you for sharing your knowledge. |

As for the chassis structure:
The four axles are identical copies of each other. You should be able to build the drive train from the picture of the underside.
Since the model is long gone, currently working on a suzuki samurai with the unimog portal axles, it is difficult to give detailed instructions.
Mainly it consists of building the axle modules and cthen connecting the 64179 parts together to form a chain and thus the chassis beam.
You can always mail me for other questions regarding the project, I might be able to reconstruct some....sometime.

This is the first moc that really gave me food for tought as some might say.
But the reward is great because all the gears are in the correct place, ratios are perfect which means in this case that all axles have the same speed of rotation, so no breaking gears this time.
Need to work on:
- two more diffentials, non-lockable. Between
axle 1-2 and between axle 3-4
- More rigid Chassis
- Less Bricks |
