This ship was primarily designed around the 'scramjet'-type engines from the big Mars Mission ship (7644). It was trickier than I thought, which altered the design from my original idea, but I'm still satisfied with the result.
About this creation
Oblique overhead shot, cockpit open and pilot/passenger standing outside. At glance, this ship has elements of a contemporary hovercraft and bomber, but it is essentially a spacecraft snubfighter.
Rear view. My starting point for the craft was the duo of jets visible here. My initial idea was to have an atmospheric rather than stellar craft, to match the appearance of the jets, but the ship evbolved over construction to become a ship for outer space. In addition to the unique jet engines, I wanted to have a more realistic engine block and components; having a distinct hyperdrive and protection.
Hyperdrive/engine block removed. This configuration in my opinion is more realistic than, for example, the modified A-wing, and allows room for components and ventilation space.
Top down cockpit, occupied (left); empty (right). Has room for one pilot and passenger with some small cargo (weapons etc) or for pilot and some extra cargo.
Shoulder view of cockpit controls. The controls for this ship are again more detailed than previous designs because of the higher degree of realism/plausability I was aiming for, with communications (left), navigation (centre), and weapons (right).
Overall I'm pleased with the outcome of the model; I feel its a successful example of the various techniques I experimented with and is a step in the right direction for progressing my fighter designs further.
