SF-97 FGE (Federated Galactic Enforcer) Flamberge
Thanks to his connections within the S.I.D., Dr. Whackemoff has been commissioned to create to several mainstream star-fighters for G.A.I.A. while continuing along with his other “dark horse” projects. His first masterpiece is the SF-97 Federated Galactic Enforcer. This 200 ton behemoth may fly like a classic fighter but it performs more along the lines of a small cruiser when engaged in battle. Armed to the teeth and defended by powerful shields, there is no opponent it wasn’t designed to turn into stellar debris. Its duties include deep space exploration/patrol, fleet escort, and other heavy combat roles such as assault on enemy capital ships and strongholds. In fact, the SF-97 was specifically engineered to function equally well on its own or as part of a larger force. How it pulls this off is that it utilizes a two man crew composed of a pilot and a navigator/gunner along with an astro-droid programmed to keep the ship up to snuff. During the trials runs of the prototype, Draxus Trocanin and Shadow Wolf (the former crew of the Avalanche Tank-Mech which is now just a digital memory) commented on how the silhouette of this war bird reminded them of a German flamberge two-handed sword used in ancient times to snap off the heads of enemies pikes and cause chaos in their ranks. When word of this got back to Dr. W. he decided to research the ancient weapon and after seeing it for himself he had to agree the similarities were striking. Without a second thought, Dr. W. allowed Draxus and Shadow to christen her the Flamberge.
About this creation

Side View

Frontal View

Rearward View

Just like on the Vengeance fighter, the FTL drive of the SF-97 is powered by energy produced by the matter/anti-matter chamber. Unlike more traditional drives though, this one actually generates a wormhole that allows the SF-97 to travel to any point already in the navigation computer. Making jumps into unknown space though is a crap-shoot at best. The vessel can wind up on the other side of the galaxy or in the heart of a star. At least it provides a last ditch escape should the crew find themselves in a bind they can’t blast their way out of!

This shot also reveals the rearward firing P-63 Hellfire plasma cannons. An upgraded version of the plasma cannons found on the Vengeance, they have the same rate of fire but do nearly 50% more damage per blast. With two of these death dealers covering its rear flanks enemy fighters don’t stand a chance of getting close without getting roasted first!

Four micro-pulse fusion engines provide the thrust for normal space and atmospheric flight. Technically two would be enough to propel the SF-97 but Dr. W. said “why settle for two engines when four will get you there that much faster!”

Four additional P-63’s plasma cannons are attached to the nosecone. Usually timed to provide a continuous rate of fire they can also be fired two and four cannons at the same time for maximum potential damage.

Attached to each side of the cockpit is a hydraulic lift for the crew to ride.

The canopy is composed of two separate hatches to allow quicker access for the crew to enter and exit the ship.

The forward seat is the pilot’s controls panel and twin joysticks. Directly behind the pilot’s seat are the navigator/gunner’s instruments.

Located between the nosecone and the cockpit is the Megajax force field generator system. The most powerful force field ever installed on a fighter, it can remain active as long as the crew needs and protect the SF-97 during virtually any reentry burn. It can also withstand several direct hits from other fighters and even a couple of shots from the guns of capital ships before being overloaded.

Here we see that the nosecone not only packs lethal firepower but is also the cargo hold. The forward half holds the crews weapons, survival gear, communicators, and tools. The rear of the hold is where Fix-R the astro-droid recharges. This little bot’s origins are unclear but it is rumored to be the “love-bot” when a trash compactor and a planetary bio-probe combined their spark one day many years ago. Fix-R is fully programmed to maintain all of the ship’s systems. Fix-R can even link up with the navigation computer and remote pilot the SF-97 back to home base in an emergency. In essence Fix-R is actually the third member of the crew.

The underside of the nosecone contains a recessed area for the landing gear. The gear itself contains a small thruster and when combined with the rear landing gear provides the VTOL capabilities for the SF-97.

The rear landing gear also contains VTOL thrusters. Unlike the nosecone thruster, these thrusters simply fold up under the wings with no recessed cavity to retract into.

On the underside of the each wing, removable weapon pods are attached to increase its lethality in combat.
The pod closer to the fuselage is the Triax Blaster Cannon. Its three long ranged laser cannons surround a support beam containing its targeting sensor. A volley from the Triax easily cripples most small to medium fighters and does significant damage to all others. Being hit by both of these pods at the same time virtually guarantees the target’s annihilation.
The outermost pod is the Blackout Hyper Velocity Gun. This twin-barreled weapon fires energized projectiles that home in on their target like guided missiles. Each barrel can launch a projectile once every 15 seconds and holds 3 shots. It needs 90 seconds to collect more stellar material to reload.

If all of the goodies so far weren’t enough, stored underneath the FTL drive is the Trident combat hover bike. This shot also shows the rear landing struts in their storage position.

Here the nosecone landing thruster is in its storage mode.

This shot shows the Trident's storage area after it's been deployed.

The Trident combat hover bike is a high speed land craft capable of land speeds in excess of 200 miles an hour and a 12 hour energy supply. It gets its name from the three blaster cannons built into the front of the machine.

Shadow Wolf decides to take the Trident out for a little spin and take in the scenery.

Draxus Trocanin, Shadow Wolf, and Fix-R discuss their mission objectives.

Wide angle shot showing the Flamberge, Trident and crew.

Last but certainly not least is a parting close-up shot of our intrepid explorers on this strange new world!

Thanks for the kind words. It feels good to see my old stuff still get a nod of approval. One thing though, what's a Z95 look like? That's one I don't recognize off of the top of my head.

Quoting Parrington Levens Hahaha, man, I get the same feeling! My VTOL has sat on top of my ratings pile unchallenged for years, like Everest! Mate the reality is, it doesn't matter. Your MocAthalon was frkn awesome man, many top builds there, you put in a bigger effort than I did. The reality is, we do obscure original stuff that doesn't get free hits like a good starwars Moc will. But think of it this way, not many original themed space fighters hit 41 smiles mate. This would be the third highest rating GAIA fighter ever. This is in front of all my Samhain Fires. As to your actual supposition, I believe we will both eventually get it right and beat our respective top Mocs by getting back to what we seem to be 'famous' for. minifig scale fighters and Vtols... When I get building again, it is going to be a GAIA minifig scale VTOL full of crazy details, and anyone who overlooks it, well that'll be their loss. Great fighter mate, really is a beast. Why not try a MK II or III with some stickers and back story? Or we could just throw in the towel and start a StarWars group, lmao...
Yeah I know my friend, I know. I actually did pretty good this mocathalon with my overall builds so I am happy with that. I'll build new minifig fighters when I get the itch. I actually have a couple of microscale fighters you might like that I intend to post once I get some pics I like. By the way best of luck with selling your place. Maybe you can come to the states. At least then I'll have one partner in crime close by! Last but not least, if I do another SW moc you know it will be a total spoof fully inappropriate for children, muwhahahahaha!

Thanks for kind words guys. The sad thing to me at least is that no matter how I try I can't seem to surpass what success this build has earned. Everything I have posted since falls far short of the mark. It leaves me wondering if I already hit the so-called high point of my Lego career and now it's all down hill into pitiful obscurity.

Well I've been a space case since since I was a knee high pain in the arse! As far as the OFFOL part goes, I'm probably older on the inside than on the outside but hey I like being grumpy. By the way I've seen your work and I still think your stuff is way more interesting than mine. On a lighter note I do have something new in the works. The shape is great (it's the first time I see someone using those giant wings in a Sci-Fi MOC) and the colors too. Above all, I very much like the fact that you managed to include a land speeder inside. 5/5
This one was a challenge on many levels not to mention I had to scrap my Avalanche tank-mech for the necessary parts. The wing came from a Mars Mission set and I didn't feel like letting it go to waste. The empty space itself inspired the speeder as a spare land vehicle.

Quoting Androctonid - Uh-just a second, let me find my jaw... How did you cram so much functionality into that already large MOC?!? Perfect combo of sci-fi and reality! Many engineering references, and the power generator/load seems very well-balanced! Also good forest and cliff background. The reference to a certain movie is also noted.;) 5/5!!!
It's good to see that this labor of love, hate, cursing, anxiety, and many hours of burning the midnight oil is still drawing attention from admiring fans such as yourself. I simply try to make my MOC's as realistic as possible while paying attention to the small details that generally not noticed when present but are very obvious when missing. Fix-R was a bot I built for another design that never made it into the final cut but I couldn't leave him sitting on the sidelines forever. When this creation came along, I finally had the perfect set to put him in. The background is a little spot in my backyard that I would love to use in all my MOC's but it's not as easy to take quality pictures as one might think. All in all though, this MOC is one of my favorites and the Flamberge is still on my Hall of Fame bookshelf.

Yes it is. I have a replica Flamberge in my room and when I saw the two next to each other I realized the name was perfect for this MOC. I even incorporated the naming of the fighter in the story for those who didn't know what a flamberge is.

Quoting Shannon Ocean Sweet work! Finally those large plane wings look cool ;)
Thanks, I couldn't leave such a large piece just laying on the side not being used. Besides I didn't have enough components to build my own wing so I modified what I had and this is the result.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Best GAIA fighter I ever saw. You took the original design and improved it much without making it lose its originality :)
Your comments are always welcome, thank you. I'm glad I still have a knack for fighters. I haven't done one for a very long time and wasn't totally sure how it would match up against some of the others great builds here. Now I have to worry if my next designs will build on this success or leave me flat on my face! I guess I'm never satified, must be the German in me!

Quoting Parrington Levens Mate, if this ain't the best fighter on these pages, it's top ten. This thing just rocks mate, that extra long nose is cool, and great choice to shoot the cover outdoors on that boulder and shrubbery, looks neat. Detials are pre wicked mate, GAIA is unstoppable! I am so glad you have done a couple fighters...
Aw shucks, flattery will get you everywhere! Just kidding. Anyway the long nose wasn't part of the original plan, it just kept growing until the whole ship measured almost 23 inches long upon completion. The background is part of my backyard and a great location except it's a challenge to get the fence and other houses out of the shots. The blue background on the undersides is actually the sky. I was lucky enough to catch it at the right angle. I am honored you like my contribution to G.A.I.A. so far and I hope you also enjoy what I have planned next. Stay tuned to this channel.

Thanks, it was actually was a challenge to get the details to come out as well as they did while building this beast not to mention taking the perfect photographs for the spread!

Quoting colin Taber this is a great moc
Thank you. This litle lady took me somewhere around 50-60 hours over several weekends to build. It probably would have been completed long ago if I had not kept changing and adding more features to it. I just couldn't post her until I felt everything was just right.
