1981 Lotus Esprit Turbo (S3)

Here is a third generation (S3) Lotus Esprit. Powered by a mid-mounted Turbo 4 cylinder, the Esprit Turbo is one of the greatest British cars of the 20th century. It combined unique wedge styling and lightweight materials to make one interesting road car. This model features details and opening doors, as well as pop-up headlights and a slide opening trunk. Please tell me what you think!
About this creation
Side profile view, showing off the stripe commonly found on the turbo model.

Front view, headlights closed.

Rear 3/4 view. I'm quite pleased with the way the back turned out.

All open except the headlights. There was no need for an opening hood because it's a glass panel on the real car.

High angle rear view showing the engine, interior, and lights.

Accurate representation of the Turbocharged 4-cylinder power plant.

Rear view. Yellow license plate for England of course!

Tan interior. Lotus emblem on the steering wheel.

This is a picture I took a day before it was completed on a remote highway in the country. The picture is surprisingly good quality considering I used my cell phone.

UPDATE (6/23/10)

Added rear window louvers to the car. I forgot that the turbo version came with louvers so I had to make them real quick.

Side view of the new louvers. The step effect is neat looking in my opinion.

The louvers hinge open to view the engine.

Very good, but I think the wheels are a tad big... but overall, very nice. From the thumbnail it looks a bit anonymous, but once I looked at the details I could easily tell that it was a Lotus Esprit. And BTW, I'm lovin' the engine cover! And the engine itself looks great! Anyways, keep up the great work! <Komioh Ransack>

This is great! There's not many Lotus's on here, I have to say this inspired me to build an elise. I'm almost done with it. I think it'll be the first large-scale on moc. Correct me if I'm wrong. But I'll definately mention your name in the description of it! You did an awesome job and have a good taste for cars, keep it up!

As always, this is great. I do have one remark: I love your rim design, but it makes the tyres look extra fat (and they should be slimmer). Still: 5*. Also: how did you do the flip-up headlights?

I think it's a very hard car to build in bricks, but you did a fantastic job! All the right curves, opening lights, in fact everything opens up. The louvres on the rear are also very good.

Nice Job, Dylan! A great sports car from back in my day (makes you think of the Roger Moore Bond movies!). You've captured just about every aspect perfectly! I've actually got a Buddy who still drives one of these! Super MOC!

Excellent build here! And a test drive, too. In reference to Dave and John's comment below, I thought of that famous Lotus submarine car from the Bond films as well. Great work!

Excellent! Wonderfully shaped. I really like all the details that you put into this one- like the detailed engine. Very good job on building the taillights on the rear of the car- very realistic. I really like the rear pylon sloping. I also just like how you did the exhaust tips. Very cool build! -Keep building! -Anthony Dunne
