About this creation
Built for the FBTB.net R-Wing contest, for which entrants were tasked to build a ship that resembles the capital letter 'R'. My primary goals for this model were to build a ship that looked like an 'R' in a more abstract fashion (ie, I didn't want to have a letter 'R' with wings), and to create something that looked unique from the usual ship designs. Designing and building this ship was a challenge for me, since achieving a good looking R-shape was difficult, and the 90F plus degree summer temperatures inside my home didn't help any!
See the Appendix folder on Brickshelf for WIP and construction pics. This model went through several wretched iterations before reaching the final version.
Required backstory for the contest:
The RXS-7 Gunship was developed by Kuat Systems Engineering and was commissioned by the controversial Commander Kilgore. Kilgore's desire was a ship to help deal with "those ****ed situations where dainty, surgical strikes just don't cut it." This fighter's main purpose was to serve as a mobile, heavy laser cannon, intended to completely obliterate its targets.

Rear view, featuring the engines. The backside and engines are probably my favorite part of this model.

Closeup of the main heavy cannon. I think I'm slowly getting better at implementing weaponry.

Closeup of the cockpit and the strafing gun mounted underneath. The gun works great for taking potshots at unfriendly pedestrians below.

The cockpit has windows in front, on top, and on both sides for visibility, with the cockpit hatches opening up on both sides.

Top view of the backside. I found that placing the yellow dots in a uniform manner around this section yielded a nice visual effect.

I love it. I also love how it resembles a sub-machine gun in some akward way, so I decided to give it a 5! It rocks! Hope you get into the top! |

Five stars as an MOC. love the details and the greeblies. But it doesn't hold the same resemblance to an R that others I have seen do. I don't think it looks very star wars either. But the second part is just me, and it is still a very good MOC. |
