It Makes Everyone Seem So Small
What could make everyone else feel so small? You'll see. See a Broadway-style parody of Carrie Underwood's hit "So Small."
About this creation

It’s Round 3 of Shannon Young’s Mob Rules contest. This time, my category is “Song and Dance Number.” Here we go! (Sorry about the embedded video with regular lyrics - I wanted to try it. Just try to read along with the song. Let me know if that works or not.)

Welcome to This Week in Broadway. The latest Broadway hit musical, “Greed,” tells the story of a desperate young woman who, after failing in so many ways to find success, buys a lottery ticket, and suddenly finds herself on the fast track to fame and fortune.

The musical uses popular tunes, rewritten to match the storyline. The following is a selection from the middle of the musical, entitled “It Makes Everyone Seem So Small.” It’s a parody of Carrie Underwood’s popular song, sung here, ironically, by Mary Overtree. Enjoy.

Whatcha got if you ain’t got cash;
the kind you just want to hoard and stash?
When your wallet’s light,

Check the jackpot at the Qwiki-Mart.
I know it's hard to spend that 5,
you know the odds are like one in a trillion,
But hold on to that chance…

'Cause sometimes the ticket that you’re holding beats the odds!
The Mega Millions draw is on TV, and it’s “Oh my gosh!”
When you realize money’s all that matters after all,
It sure makes you want to run to the mall.

It's so easy to get lost in choice;
what to buy? Now you have the chance.
It's like the money’s a fire,
it burns in your pants.
While you sit around thinking about what you’re gonna buy,
Googling the biggest stuff you can find,

A private Lear jet,
A humongous yacht,

Now the whole world wants to see what you got!

'Cause sometimes the ticket that you’re holding is the one!
The power you were searching for forever now has come!
When you realize money’s all that matters after all,
It sure makes everyone else
seem so small.

'Cause sometimes the ticket that you’re holding pays dividends!
People you never knew now want to be your friends!
When you realize money’s all that matters after all,
It sure makes everyone…
It sure makes everyone come to call.

Oh where, oh where did my little droid go? Can you find the missing droid head and legs? Apparently I only have 7 battle droids.

I had fun coming up with all the little details here, from the blue curtains on the wings to the main curtain. The row of brown wedge pieces on the bottom was about the fifth try in that area.

Stage lighting was fun to set up, but it helped little during the photo shoot.

You probably already figured out how I did this effect, but my daughter wanted me to show it. I should also mention that both my daughters made a microscale building for the background.

Some may wonder where I got the idea. I was listening to, well, Carrie Underwood, of course. Did you think I only listened to Weird Al? Okay, okay, so I do. But my girls were playing Carrie Underwood, and I was trying to figure out how to BE Weird Al, and do a parody. I wanted to pick a familiar experience, and winning the lottery popped into my head. Not that it’s familiar to me, but we’ve all heard of people winning.

When you look at my build, you’ll realize I put much more effort into the stage than the prop pieces and backgrounds. This build was really about the stage for me. I had a bunch of ideas I wanted to try. That was my first microcity, by the way. And I wanted to throw in the curtain I first saw here (Thanks, Peter Woodley). It came together nicely, I think, although the stage ended up too deep and narrow. Well, there’s always the MocOlympics.

God has blessed me with a wonderful, beautiful, adoring wife, whose passion for taking good Lego pictures is only surpassed by her love for me, and I thank her once again.

Usually I post these contest entries on Sunday, but I can’t this week. I’m going to NASCAR at Infineon Raceway! OH YEAH BABY! Thanks, Jamie, for the tickets. You rock, man.

So, embedded video: Good idea, or bad?

By the way, the camera man is holding the camera backwards (I know we always used to play with them that way, but in actuality the large part hangs over his sholder and a little red light can mount off the eye piece). Know you know :-)

Very impressive, although I don't think all the decapitated droids agree. I like the details, and thought the movie was a great idea!

Outstanding sets! Love the microcity, but I have no clue who Carrie Underwood is, oh well, that does not matter as the MOC is excellent!

It is very easy to tell that it is a play/musical, you use great detail, and your added lines really help in this case. The only point off is the hanging parts, but they look great too!

Great builds, especially that stage. Your song writing would make Al proud. Great stuff.

Quoting Hans Dendauw There, you have my 2 cents. Nice work.~H
Thanks for the cents (and sense!). I like that - the optional music feature. Thanks for the feedback.

First, the build. Excellent! All the details were great and the stage, while not to your ultimate satisfaction, came out stellar. Second, the parody writing. Funny and creative, if not full of unfortunate truths. I would say you did Al proud. Lastly, embedded music. Chris was saying the it slows down the pages, but I THINK he meant the music that plays automatically; you'll have to ask him. Personally, I like having the option of using the music to follow along, especially if I'm unfamiliar with it. In this case, the words were different and I don't really care for the song, so I skipped it. There, you have my 2 cents. Nice work.~H

The only thing better than your MOC is giving God the glory for your creativity. That is automatically a point on My Fav list. Great work here!
