Just when your enemy thought that they just might have a snowflake's chance in Vulcan's forge, this guy swings by.
About this creation
In order to satisfy an 18th DSF requirement for an anti-shipping fighter capable of being launched from a carrier, ConVex Co. came up with the designs for this puppy.
Mounting an amazingly powerful 55mm eight-barreled main gun, it can launch 1200 rounds of AP, HE, alternating AP/HE, canister, and flak rounds based upon its mission in as little as 60 seconds (1200rounds/min).
Additionally, two 20mm cannon allow the 188 to dogfight/strafe if necessary.
As a consequence of its inherent abilities, the 188 turned into a potent and capable ground attacker as well.
The strange-looking tail serves a very definite purpose. While forward of the wings is the gun and ammo coils, and back of the wings is the engine, the pilot sits atop a solid mass of machinery and is himself almost an afterthought. So where do you put the radar? You build it on the back, of course!
While flying atmospherically, the pilot has to be wary of his airspeed, and differential weight. Resulting in steep attack angles that could just as easily end badly, as well.

One of the reasons this won was because of it's sleekness. It looks fast but also powerful. The light gray on the barrel tips was also a nice touch. The only thing that bugs me is the tail. |
