Several members of TwinLUG contribute to a group display for the Twin Cities largest comic convention.
About this creation
We had two tables at the comic convention. On one 5 by 8 foot table we had our Atlantis themed diorama, another had the Micropolis layout. I built all the stuff on the left half of the table which is 96 studs wide and 144 studs deep. It comes in nine 32 by 48 modules. Brian Kasprzyk built the right side and it's about the same size. Matt Holland and Max Braun each added a baseplate full of fun stuff, over on Brian's side. Max also made the black Manta ship beside the dark bley research building. That's one cool ride.
We had a good reception to the display. Lots of people bring their kids, under 9 gets in free, and they were the most excited. Many kids came back several times. We meet several AFOL's who didn't know that's what they were. That's always fun.
I thought it was interesting that Brian and I approached the display from two completely different angles. He was more organic with the ancient sunken buildings all fallen apart and I was more modern and invasive. Here come the humans! Everyone run!
The convention invites the club as a guest and gives us free memberships and all the free food we can eat and all the free pop we can swill. You don't have to beg us to some put on a show. Just wave some sandwiches around. It's a two day convention and after the first day on saturday wraps up they host a steak fry and feed us even more. Good food too. This is the third year we have been back to the con.
